STARS Shine Again, Take 2-0 Series Lead Back to Dallas

I'll have more tomorrow...but here are a few notes about Game 2 and the series...

Dallas is stacked at center and they all contributed big goals tonight! Ribeiro opened the scoring on a neat break-away goal after stealing a bad pass at the Ducks' blue line; he ended up with a 3-point night. Modano broke the 2-2 tie six minutes into the 3rd, essentially opening the flood gates with his (eventual) 13th playoff game-winning goal. Then exactly 55 seconds after that, the guy Brett Hull brought in to score in the playoffs, Brad Richards, did just that! He put the game away and then set up the extra insurance goal late in the 3rd.

The Ducks said all the right things leading up to the game, and even played a disciplined, hard-working 1st period. But they also allowed Dallas to strike first and go up 2-0 on yet another power play goal early in the 2nd. Then after fighting hard to finally score on Turco and tie the game heading into the 3rd, they fell apart again! Too many border line hits, head-hunting, and moronic plays...and the Stars go back on the power play, put the game away, and then really put the game away. The refs can't ignore those plays the entire night. Furthermore, DIVING must be a new directive from the Ducks' coaching staff...as it was clearly tried throughout the game by the Ducks' superstars. Other than Selanne's successful bid early on, thank goodness the refs were wise to their shenanigans! Bertuzzi is like a human time bomb...you just cannot trust the guy; he is the absolute antithesis of the players who played like a team and won the Cup last year.

The NHL has once again chosen not to give up the name of the person that picked the 3 stars of the game! And once again I have no idea how Getzlaf (though he played a good game) even sniffs the 3rd star of the game let alone 2nd star; especially considering the fact that he had ONE single point -- a secondary assist. So once again I shall give you the REAL 3 stars of the game...

*Anaheim mustered 12 shots on goal in the first 2 periods.

*Turco has given up 2 goals in 2 games and JSG has given up 9...who would have thunk it!?! Turco has also blanked the Ducks 5 out of 6 periods thus far.

*Brad Richards came to life, as did his linemates Loui Eriksson and Joel Lundqvist. Lundqvist seems to have put the mediocre sophomore season behind him, and returned to the solid playoff performer he was against the Canucks last year.

*Dallas now has 6 power-play goals in 2 games.

*Anaheim resorted back to their "hit first-play the puck later-sit in the box-and watch Dallas score again" play in the 3rd period...and I'll be darned if the STARS did not completely dominate that 3rd period.

*Mike Modano loves him some Duckies! And Southern California, for that matter!

*Another solid effort from every Dallas STARS player!

Dallas STARS fans -- we've been waiting several years for this...IT IS OUR TURN NOW...you better bring your A-game to the AAC on Tuesday and Thursday nights...the STARS have no intentions of going back to Anaheim this season...lets finish it this week!
