Olympic Peace Summit...Penguins and Flyers Fans Unite?

Let's face it...Penguins and Flyers fans love TWO things...

1) Their respective teams...
and
2) to dislike, dare I say hate, the OTHER team/team's fans

But in February, both sides will be put into an akward position as the 2010 Olympics open.

Both teams fans, of mostly US origin, will have (most likely) their favorite players on the roster for Team Canada - Mike Richards and Chris Pronger from Philly - Marc Andre Fleury along with the Flyer's fans favorite punching bag, Sidney Crosby.

So the question is, who do you root for?

Most US citizens will simply root for their country. After all, isn't that what you are supposed to do during the Olympics?

But some will root for the team with their favorite players on it. And in that case, for some Penguin and Flyer fans that will be Team Canada.

Either way, there is a CHANCE, that for at least some part of those 2 weeks, there will be Penguin and Flyers fans cheering for (or against) the same players and teams.

I don't know about you, but I am pretty sure that's all the ingredients you need to create a black hole in the space time continuum.

Personally, I have never been a big fan of Chris Pronger, but I do like Mike Richards as a player. Especially when he is on his game and not spending too much time with extra-curricular activities (something I think Jordan Staal has been accused of as well). So, should team USA be out of the finals, I will be happy to root for Team Canada...and even Richards and Pronger.

But, what about those Flyer fans?

They don't get the reputation for being the worst/best (depending on your point of view) for nothing. What if Team Canada faces Team Russia for the gold medal. Will Flyer fans be able to root for Sidney Crosby or will that simply be unacceptable?

It's an interesting situation. Curious to know what you guys think.

Let's all hope for one thing...

If Canada is in the finals...say against Russia...and Mike Richards scores a goal...or it APPEARS that he has scored a goal...let's all hope that nobody from FSN Pittsburgh is responsible for sending the replay to the Olympic War Room...
