John Dellapina reports that Don Meehan, agent for Michael Peca, never recieved an offer from the Rangers.

Peca is now down to the Columbus Blue Jackets and possibly another team which is not known. I say this because Blueshirt Bulletin reported that Meehan stated that he had two offers that he would look at and decide on by week's end. One of them is known to be the Blue Jackets. Despite the speculation, the other is not Buffalo, who's GM had repeatedly said that they would not sign Peca. I will let you know if I find out.

As for the Rangers, this comes as a surprise after the Rangers gave Peca a physical and he spoke with Head Coach Tom Renney and did not even recieve an offer. The Rangers must have decided, like many fans have said, that Peca is too big of a risk and not needed because of the depth at center. It is likely that Brandon Dubinsky or Nigel Dawes will fill the 3rd line center spot, depending on how their respective preseasons go. If they are both not ready, Hossa may be moved to the top line and Avery, Drury or Straka will center the third line.

If anyone has any thoughts or new information, please comment.

For my next blog, barring any big moves, I will be continuing to analyze the Rangers and will be breaking down Defense #2.

I wouldn't count the Sabres out. Darcy has done a lot of surprising shit in his career with the Sabres. He might say one thing but if Lindy talks him into it and the price is right (which it wold be) Darcy might sign him.

i think the sharks are in on the pecca sweeps. yes this is random but we lost billy and bell now mabye grier will go back to the wing and peca will take our third line center. or mabye marleau move to the wing with thornton lol yes that would be the best line and michalek lol

I love peca..I think that he would greatly help any team and make a contending team that much stronger. However good on the rangers for not signing him. They already have a top 3 goalie, top 3 offence, all they need to do is to solidify their defence and this team quickly becomes the team to beat in the east. Good thinking sather let some other teams fall out of contention..i.e Los angelas then pick up a stuart or a Blake at the deadline.
