Peca To Blue Jackets

Posted 11:01 AM ET | Comments 3
In the final edition of the Peca blog series, TSN has confirmed the Michael Peca has reached an agreement on a 1 year deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets that will be officially anounced later today. This ends a 3 week saga where he was involved with the Rangers, Sabres and Leafs. His signing is welcomed in Columbus, a team that just lost a forward, Svitov, to Russia. The amount of the deal is likely in the 1.3 million range with added performance bonuses. Columbus was clearly not Peca's first opton but with Toronto, Buffalo and New York walking away from deals, he will be stuck on a team that will likely not contend for the playoffs. In what could be his last NHL season, it would not surprise me if Peca and his small salary would be used as trade bait to a contending team. In any event, it is a good signing for Columbus and he should be a good fit as there is speculation that he may play on the top line. Im sure that may have been a selling point to Peca and it looks like both parties are happy with the deal.

Im heading out to see a Harry Potter 5 with my family, a movie that I missed when I was in summer camp. I will be back at around 3 pm with updates and the next part of "Analyzing the Rangers".

He very well could be traded at the deadline. As you said, Columbus isn't a playoff team yet, and they could use picks and prospects..

Definitely.. I just hope WE don't end up trading the picks for him.

I don't see Peca on the first line. I think he'll be on the second line with Federov centering the first line like last year. This is a good signing for Columbus by providing leadership in the dressing room as well as a 'mentor' for Nash.
