Favourite Multiple OT Game

Posted Thursday | Comments 4
With another great multiple overtime game in the bag, what is your most memorable multiple OT game? I'll have to side with game 3 in the 2nd round last season with the Sharks leading the series 2-0 heading into the game. This game proved to be the turnaround for the Oil who rolled off 7 consecutive wins after this game. The bar we were watching at asked us to leav...
During the intermission between the 3rd and 4th overtimes, the clock struck 3 a.m. on the East Coast, and very promptly VERSUS left its Canucks-Stars coverage and flipped on some infomercial about pilates...... are you kidding me?!?? I know you have to pay the bills, but that is absolutely RIDICULOUS! There should be outrage from the hockey community over this and...

WHAT A GAME!!!

Posted Thursday | Comments 3
So, just got home from the 4OT thriller at the garage tonight, WHAT A GAME. I mean, they stopped selling beer after the 2nd intermission, so I wound up paying $4 bucks for Sprite, but that's all good. Go Canucks Go... and chants of TTTUUURRCCOOO filled the evening excitement as I basically lost my voice and drank ice cubes for 2 OT's. Skytrain was reasonable on the way ...

Overtime

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
Can you believe how the Canuck/Star game ended? How many games that go into 3+ overtimes end on a nice goal? I mean really.....Hank is not a very likely hero as he barely scores any goals...but a nice looking goal? Same with the Shark victory over the Preds, great goal in overtime....not common but I am glad it happened. Lets hope day 2 will be as good!

The Overtime Dilemma

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
What do you do when you've invested 4 hours in a game, its 1:30am and a full workday looms 6 hours away? There is nothing better than a Stanley Cup playoff game going into multiple overtimes. There is nothing worse than that alarm clock going off anything less than 4 hours after finally falling asleep. Vancouver and Dallas kicked of what I love most about the playoff...
I was doing great watching the games downstairs (On the nice TV). Although the Pens vs. Sens early match up wasn't what I thought it would be, the later games really were starting to heat up. I was riveted by the Sharks vs. Preds game late in the 3rd period. I was thrilled when my old buddy J.P. Dumont tied the game to send to overtime. WOW! Funny, because it almost s...
One of the more visible changes to come out of the lockout was the institution of the shootout to decide the winner of games which remained undecided after a 4-on-4 overtime. This resulted in quite a lot of excitement for fans to be sure, but also let a few rounds of a skills competition play a large part in determining standings points for a team. The original move to ...
Bill Meltzer had an interesting post today regarding the debate over whether or not the NHL should switch to shootouts in the playoffs: http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=7179 I stand with Mr. Meltzer on this, and just want to add a thought I had. The people who are looking for a change in playoff format are clearly not hockey fans, or they would know how rid...

The ultimate 180

Well, Since it seems, for now, that all is said and done in Philadelphia, I think it's time for me to get my fingers to work and get my first blog out in QUITE some time. And what a better time to get one out while the world of hockey is dead, the Selanne to Philly rumors have quieted, Sid the Kid has signed an nice extension, and Sheldon Souray is still out of his mi...
Ok, first off, I think Hossa is a wash. I don't like him. He's a big guy and yes, he's good along the boards, but he's not as good as his brother, period. He's only hit 18 points in the NHL and 40 in the AHL. Dawes only played 8 games and got a goal in the big league, but absolutely dominated the AHL. Dawes is just going to get better. For the love of everything t...

Panic Button

Posted Tuesday | Comments 0
Are we really ready to panic in Leaf land already? It seems to be the same old story, especially last night, where the defence continues to break down, third period leads are blown, and bad give aways that lead to penelties and to top it all off, everyone's favorite overpriced D-man McCabe puts in the OT winner on his own net with 3 seconds left. This left me in a sour m...

Buffalo vs. Toronto preview

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
I just played NHL 08 for Sabres vs. Leafs and here's your basic rundown: 1st Mats Sundin scores 1-0 Toronto 3rd Alex Ponikarovsky scores 2-0 Toronto Henrik Tallinder scores 2-1 Toronto Ales Kotalik scores after Tucker just misses empty Buffalo net 2-2 OT Derek Roy scores 3-2 Buffalo
Anaheim had a terrific power play kill throughout the whole game. After the Ducks tallied back in the second period there was a leverage that would be slightly turned once more for the Jackets until Over Time. Special teams for the Ducks was what won them this game, hands down. These teams are wonderful rivals because when they play each other, they tend to have some very...
I've had just about enough of all the talk about "how we can improve the all-star game." Some "experts" have even suggested that we drop the all-star game completely. People always say how the all-star game "isn't what it used to be." The reason is blatantly obvious. All-Star games are for children, and corporate schmoozing. Unless you fit into one of those categories, the...
The Overtime/Shootout Loss - Time to Lose the Point and Win The Good Old Days Take a walk with me back to the days of clutching and grabbing, the days of actually being able to clear the crease and the horrid days of ties in hockey. Two teams played 60 minutes, fought hard, left their blood on the ice and end up tied. Overtime. In this in...
Goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere slammed his stick behind the bench . Then he kicked the boards on the bench. This was just after giving up 3 goals in the second period to the Wild. Are the Ducks overrated? After giving up 3 goals in 2 minutes Giggy was pulled. "I probably would have done the same thing," Giguere said. "I'm not mad at Randy for pulling me. I'm mad at the si...
Look, sports are a business. I don't care how classy Sundin and Kaberle are because they "love their city", or any of the other 17,000 players that seem to have NTCs in the NHL, but what ever happened to a GM being able to manage their team? The NTC gives a player too much leverage. Boo hoo you don't want to be traded, well then, stop sucking! If you want to earn that m...
Well, if there was any doubt on the fate of the Sabres - I called this weeks ago -, they proved tonight why they don't deserve to be one of the 8 Eastern Conference teams left standing for the 2008 NHL postseason. But beware of the spin! In the coming days and weeks, these are the things you'll be hearing from Sabres management, head coach Lindy Ruff, and general manag...
Yet another roller coaster of a game between the Red Wings and the Preds. Say what you will about either team but one thing is for certain they are giving hockey fans a great series to watch. Vote for NHL on ESPN.com

Let the sports world know what an NHL game 7 means to us. And in the process, let ESPN know that we want them to keep increasing their hockey coverage! Currently, the ...

Thank you Joffrey Lupul. Thank you Hockey Gods. What a ridiculously suspenseful game. I laughed. I threw stuff at my TV. I yelled at the refs. And I definately jumped ...
I'll do an introductory blog later. I'm going to have some fun with this first one. I hope you will, too. Every Playoffs, there is drama. There is no drama in any postseason, IMO, like an overtime goal in a Stanley Cup Playoff game. I was in the crowd for Game 1 of last year's conference quarterfinal between the Sharks and Preds, and I tell you, there's been nothing lik...
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS OF THE FLAMES PROSPECTS CAMP I was quite pleased when I went to this camp. It was really interesting to see the progress of the players. I love the talent; I had no idea of the ability of the prospects. The Flames will have a solid future for many years to come. Especially in the net, where they have plenty of depth. What made it more fun...
The Blues applied their best pressure of the series late in the second period last night. They tied the score at 2-2 with two goals and again had the puck in front of the net and close to the goal line. Luongo never appeared to have the puck covered as it was sliding around in the crease area and eventually crossed the line and into the net. It was ruled that the puck h...
When it comes to fantasy hockey drafts, the temptation is to pull out last year's stats and pick the guy who had the most points. A lot of bad assumptions go into that philosophy. For one thing, you ultimately end up with a host of one-hit wonders and miss out on the rising players. We've assembled here a list of players that peaked last year or had a fluke of a great s...
This Summer, the National Hockey League has been looking at ways to improve the game. From moving the faceoff circles to eliminating shootouts, NHL officials have targeted a few ideas that could be beneficial to the entire league. After the NHL lockout, the shootout came into effect and many fans were excited about it, as expected. The shootout was something rarely seen...
When preparing for your fantasy hockey draft, the lazy man's plan is to pull out last year's stats and pick the guy who had the most points. Many bad assumptions go into that philosophy. Hello again, friends. It has long been my contention that, while gimmicks such as the shootout or the "regulation tie/overtime loss point" may (depending on your point of view) make overtime more exciting, the old W-L-T format is the best and most fair way to rank teams during the regular season. The NHL playoffs do not have shootouts, and you don't get half a win fo...
The Ducks dont get anything easy. Nashville, Phoenix, LA... they all keep putting points on the standings (even though LA cant put very many goals on the scoreboard. 3 goals in 3 games... just saying.) Saturday night the Ducks traveled up to LA for a huge Saturday night match. I'll be honest. Those are the two teams I watch the most and I can say without a doubt I see no ...
Obviously fans and coaches alike appreciate grit and the willingness to go into the tough areas of the ice, but what seems to be equally valuable, even if it is at a sub-conscious level, is the ability to curl the upper lip and stare right through a player as though you’re going to rip his heart out. More than one NHLer has backed away from Kevin Bieksa after realizin...
Was that offense I saw? Wow, how nice it is to see the Lightning score goals and get solid performances from a lot of key sources. It’s like my entire Christmas wish list was answered in one night. Thanks Santa! Alright, so the goals may not have been the prettiest what with all the deflections and all, but a win is a win is a win and this team will take whatever it ...

Leafs Thoughts, What Not.

Posted Monday | Comments 0
1. Despite what a lot of people seem to be thinking about what will happen if the Oilers get a second line centre at the draft and thus free up Sam Gagner for trade, the Leafs should steer clear of him. If the Leafs were to land him, he's projected as the number one centre, and adding to that, he's a Toronto boy, and we all know how Brian Burke loves local boys (sarcasm). ...

NHL Entry Draft 2012

Keep in mind that this article reflects my opinions and does not use any Draft Day rumours on any other persons blogs or news articles. To start off the draft, the Edmonton Oilers faithful have been awarded with watching thier Team "Kick off" the Draft Day by selecting first overall for the third year in a row. A Pick widely considered to be used on Draft Day front Runn...
It’s almost comical to read the comments that inevitably follow online articles reporting on the NHL Lockout, especially those that are the, “That’s it! I’m done! I’ll never follow the NHL again!” variety. The funny part is when you read another article 3 days later, there’s the same person, with the same comment. And then, a week later, the same comment from...

Draft Predictions

Posted Saturday | Comments 0
The Edmonton Oilers will be the recipients of the first overall draft pick until they assemble an entire roster of first overall draft picks. The league has virtually ensured this as now all fourteen teams that miss the playoffs have a chance to win the first overall pick. Plus we all know that the Oilers aren't making the playoffs anytime soon. They also managed to pry...

OVERHAUL

Posted Monday | Comments 0
The time has come for the Sabres to commence an overhaul. No more waiting for that breakthrough year from team-drafted players. No more counting on primary offensive players to provide secondary scoring. No more patience with veterans who simply do not perform. The core of this group will simply not get it done. The needs and shortcomings of this team have been glaring...
Draft Predictions At Number Six (Flames) Hi everyone, over the last few days I’ve been asking twitter followers of mine who they think the Calgary Flames will pick at number six in their own opinion. So let’s hear what they said. Ryan Smiley (@BacklundFan11) - Im gonna have to say I’d pick Max Domi of the London Knights (OHL). He’s probably one of ...
The Ducks have been absolutely dominant at home this season, losing only twice, and never in regulation. The looked to extend that home dominance against the Canucks tonight, but ran into a goalie playing out of his mind, combine that with a terrible 1st period, and the Ducks almost lost the game. But a late goal in the 3rd tied the game, and then a goal with seconds left ...
For the average fantasy hockey player, draft preparation consists of purchasing a magazine, turning to the last page and cracking open a beer 10 minutes before draft time. They may pull up an injury report while they're waiting for that last guy to drop off his kids and show up 10 minutes late for the draft. For those who put their fate entirely in the hands of the exper...

Jets in it for the Long Haul

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
I recently heard a caller on the Jets Post-Game Show on TSN1290 hoping that the Jets will sign some UFA's from other teams this off-season, to try to avert the situation we are in this year by bolstering our young line up with veterans. rnrnSounded to me like he still believes the Jets would have made the playoffs this year with Frolik, Stempniak and Tlusty and been a much...
I read a few articles on bad trades that some teams made, and usually it's "all star" for some guy who has the ceiling but is a few years younger, and more often than not, the one who benefits is the one that gets the better player NOW rather than the future. But it's like those games, where a team loses 4-3 in OT, and people rush back to thinking about that goal that...
