if the league is going to be consistant in handing out suspendsion in regarding to blows to head, why wasn't Chris Neil suspended for his head shot in third?
Maybe because Ottawa is a team from Canada or maybe this done to by the league that desperatly needs as much prime time exposure as possible to gain any attraction it can, and is going to do anything it has to to get it to manufactor a game 7.....
A total joke... Colin Campbell and Basketball Bettman are hurting this sport by only punishing the Ducks...Chris Neil is nothing but a goon, his hit was the dirtiest hit I've seen in a long time. Pronger actually is a good player.
Are you talking about the hit to Andy McDonald? That was in the second period... unless there was another dirty hit in the third that i missed...
If you are gonna spend Pronger for that hit then Neil should have got at least 2 games. That was a gutless attempt to injure someone for a long period of time and I dont care what team that is it does not belong in the NHL. Nothing wrong with playing tough but cheap shots like that are a disgrace just like Neil's career!
Woops, clicked before I was ready.Max, Let's not forget Rob Ray (one of my favorite players). He actually had a rule created just for him. I'm not saying its right, but Neil's only doing what is expected of him, just like Rayzor did. He's only on the ice for one reason, and it ain't for his shooting prowess.
From what I remember, Neil missed McDonald. If you want to suspend a guy every time he tries to throw a dirty check and misses....we would not have very many players on the ice each game. Maybe Neil missed him on purpose and was just trying to scare him? That's why you cant suspend for intent, and only if there was an actual foul and someone was hurt.
Neil's attempted hit was basically a replay of Pronger's hit on Holmstrom (minus Neidermeyer and the glass) but he missed. The fact is that the result of a hit matters. Neil would have been suspended if he had made contact but McDonald got out of the way. If anyone thinks his missed hit is the dirtiest yet they've seen, they haven't watched very much hockey.
