Lets say, because he said it, that Sidney Crosby does not have an injury.
Let's also say, for all intents and purposes, he doesn't feel tired (although I kind of think he was worn out and won't admit it).
Why did the guy that a lot of people consider to be one of the most competitive guys in hockey...look so defeated throughout most of the playoffs?
Why did he not look 'up to the challenge'?
Why did he look like the weight of the world was on his shoulders when he played?
Dare I say it...like he was 'dying alive' on the ice?
Again...watched PK Subban last night...this guy is living the dream right now...and he plays for Michael Therrien for crying out loud!
It could be a lot of things...with 'lack of' a supporting cast definitely playing a part in that. Surely a deeper team means that opponents would not be able to spend so much time disrupting Crosby. When teams did that to Lemieux...he had Jagr, Francis, Stevens, Tocchet...etc to step up and score. Clearly, aside from Malkin...the Pens don't have enough guys that can/do step up.
But...without doubt...somewhere...in the leadership chain in Pittsburgh...things aren't right...haven't been right for a few years at least.
Crosby's body language spoke of a player that was just not quite there for the fight.
I know a lot of people say...now at least...that the coach lost his team.
Sometimes all it takes is for the coach to lose his captain for that to happen.
I go back to a comment Letang made about Crosby after (I think) the game where he scored his goal. He said when he plays like that he inspires the rest of us.
'When'...is the operative word. There was a time when 'when' was almost 'always'.
I know Crosby is only human...and perhaps as he ages, 'always' will become a harder goal to achieve. But surely something has to be done to get him closer to that goal because this team will never win a cup with him at captain if it's a case of 'when'.
Good read
They already won a cup with him at captain. They will never win another cup until they become less top heavy on offense and pick up some defensive defensemen.
Never liked Crosby but he is a brilliant player.
Is he really a great captain though? Not trying to troll, but the League/officials respect him, but not many players on opposing teams respect him.A good example is in the Olympics when Teemu told Crosby to stay on his feet (diving).
He won the Lindsay award last year...so he must have some respect among players.
The first part of the post made me think of Thorton. Dude looked defeated in Games 6 and 7 after being down just one goal before the game was half over.
