The fallout of last nights marathon is starting to be felt throughout the city. Yes, the Canucks finally ended the game in the fourth period of overtime and I am sure that everyone has a story about how they stayed awake for the entire thing or they couldn't handle it and went to bed, but how much did the game cost the Canucks.
Behind all the rumors that the Stars were taking IV while the Canucks were eating pasta, the Canucks were truly dominated. Luongo struggled (at times) as did Turco and the fact of the matter is the Stars peppered Luongo with over 70 shots while the Canucks only mustered just over 40 in the 7 periods of hockey.
The reason I ask the question of how much this victory cost the Canucks is the loss of players due to injury. Matt Cooke tweaked his groin (day-to-day); Alexander Burrows is lost somewhere in Sec 120 of GM Place as he was hammered into the board (out in definately) and now Ryan Kesler is apparently having surgery on his finger after blocking a shot (4 - 5 weeks). Add these names to Brent Sopel who seems to have problems picking up crackers (yes, crackers) and you have to wonder what next?Enter Jannik Hansen (yes, Jannik Hansen another Swede) and Nathan Smith (another flop of a Vancouver first round pick).
Game 2 should be very interesting. Do the Stars play a tight defensive style and 'try not to lose'; or do they take it to the Canucks (again) and have more success because of the Canucks lake of experience.
Gotta run, Flames are losing....this is great!
didn't know Kes was having surgery. That can't be good.Do we know anything about this Jannik Hansen character?
Well put...I'll give you the early answer that will shortly be appearing in my next blog...THE STARS WILL DOMINATE GAME 2 AND HEAD BACK TO DALLAS 1-1! Sorry brother!
No way Dallas does anything but attack with speed, like usual. I wouldn't worry too much about Vancouver and their injuries. Those things are bound to happen. At least it wasn't Sedin 1 and Sedin 2 and Smolinski that got hurt.
TheEdge, in response to your question about Jannik Hansen, here is the link to the press release on canucks.com. Looks like he has the same trait as every Canucks prospect....scores at every level, except Pro. http://www.canucks.com/pressreleases.asp?sectionID=31
Canucks in 5 seriously. Sedin twins are good, Luongo is amazing. Kevin Bieksa baby he runs the show. canucks all the way!
Apparently, Hansen is Danish...
