A few thoughts before I move on to bigger and better issues! And yes, I fully expect the bitterness to flow from Luongo07 and Mojoworld!
(1) Roberto Luongo was absolutely brilliant throughout the playoffs...he is a monster. Without question, he is deserving of the MVP award. He played on his head last night but, as has been the case, could not score and could not play DEFENSE!
(2) The Canucks defense has been pitiful in both series...especially Bieksa. It hurt the team more that some of them, especially Bieksa, were playing injured. I know guys play injured in the playoffs, but they did not help the team. Willie Mitchell was the only solid d-man in the lineup, but he can't do it on his own. Give me all the penalty kill and scoring statistics you can throw at me, but they say nothing more than Luongo was incredible...they have little to do with your defense.
(3) The Ducks were too much to handle. If you shut down Selanne, Kunitz, and McDonald, then Getzlaf, Perry, and Penner killed you...and visa-versa. Vancouver had no scoring punch, in either series...and the Sedin's that carried you all year went MIA. And let us not forget about the excellent goal-tending of JS Giguere...he may not have had to make as many saves, but he made enough for a 4-1 series win.
(4) I'm so thankful Luongo made it back into the game...otherwise we would never hear the end of it!
Am I happy Vancouver has joined Dallas at the golf course? Absolutely...they barely escaped us in the first place! But I can't wait for another shot at them next season! Until then Canucks' faithful...
ADIEU!
Let's watch the Ducks get roasted now! I hate that team!
Excellent...something we agree on!
Good assessment Nephew23. The Canucks defence is better (defensively) than you give them credit for being. Salo and Bieksa playing hurt upset their usual rhythm and pairings. The canucks went only as far as they did because of no power play and no ability to react quickly to situations. The Sedins create slowly and methodically and were unable to react quickly enough to the pressure on them. The Canucks went only as far as they did as well, because -- as everyone knows -- they don't have forwards who can just flat-out score (like selanne). The ducks are a fairly complete team...but can they beat sj or detroit with 3 lines (basically)? Dallas has similar needs to Vancouver -- certainly not goaltending -- some forwards who can just score!
Agreed Fred...completely! And no...Ducks cannot beat either team.
It's funny that you expect bitterness from me. There is no bitterness, from the begining of the season the Ducks were expected to do well. The Canucks on the other hand weren't. They made something out of nothing here and even made the playoffs and won a round. The only bitterness that there may be is the lack of desperation that was shown by 99% of the Canucks last night. So how, some way they were in that game. That has been the story all season long, the Ducks just proved to be too strong. Was it an elbow? Maybe, maybe not, that is why you have to take advantage of the opportunities that you do get cause eventually your chances will run out.
Somehow I you'd bring up the possible elbow! I have yet to see the hit, so I don't know...but I was disappointed that Roberto even went there.
If you would learn to read I am bitter about the lack of desperation shown by the Canucks. Nothing to do with the elbow. I am not a whiny baby (cough, 2 weeks after the fact, cough) about the officiating.
