Today is the day. Over 1000 days have passed since Vancouver fans have seen their team in playoff hockey! Questions marks are popping up around this team like suspensions in the NFL. No one really knows what to expect but I think I have an idea. Dallas has the same problem as Vancouver, low scoring, defensive style and great goaltending and a poor playoff record in re...
I realize that today is Christmas and the moment we wait for all year long...BUT... thanks to Eklund's insane love for hockey and, especially, his desire to include and reward the true fans of the game, I must first use this great new platform to honor the ALL-TIME GOAL SCORING AMERICAN! Stay tuned for more about the Stars playoff run...there is nothing better than gettin...
I'm writing this blog entry on my laptop from the Library at SFU Surrey Campus, having just completed a painfully easy Criminology exam. I have two tickets to Game 1 of the playoffs tonight, thanks to my entry in the Ultimate Canucks Search contest. The game is scheduled to start at 7pm, with a tribute to the 82 cup ...

Some Thoughts on the Series

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
It is widely publicized how evenly the Stars and Canucks match up. Excellent defense, not-so-much offense, and top-notch goalies! The series may very well go seven games with multiple overtimes in each. There will be some late nights in Dallas and extremely late nights in Vancouver...at least for us Texans! It is my opinion that in order for the Stars to win this serie...

With the playoffs underway, I would love to hear some of your guy's predictions. Here are mine: Buffalo Sabers vs. New York islanders I feel the Islanders will pull it out, mainly because of Dubielewicz, but it's hard to go against the Sabers. Sorry Buffalo fans but I got to go with the Islanders. New York in 7 New Jersey Devils vs Tampa Bay Lightning...

Sudden Death in Vancouver

Quarter past midnight local time and I have just woken from a deep state of self introspective reality. As I think to myself do any of these people on the ice have any idea on the certain danger they face. "They are surly going to sink I thought to myself" it's like water "How are they doing it?" "Is it real?" God this is still ongoing I'd better settle down and get r...
Ok that was sarcasm. Every year, I think I forget just how good playoff hockey is. The playoffs are only one day old, and we've already seen a double OT game, followed up by a Quadruple OT game. (I started writing this blog during the second OT assuming the game would end soon.) We watched San Jose lose last years leading goal scorer, and then lose a 2 goal lead in the ...

Can you believe how the Canuck/Star game ended? How many games that go into 3+ overtimes end on a nice goal? I mean really.....Hank is not a very likely hero as he barely scores any goals...but a nice looking goal? Same with the Shark victory over the Preds, great goal in overtime....not common but I am glad it happened. Lets hope day 2 will be as good!

Jany-B was here there and everywhere last night/this morning! Much like Markus Naslund, it seems that Jan Bulis has decided to take advantage of the clean slate that the playoffs provide. The Overtime Dilemma

What do you do when you've invested 4 hours in a game, its 1:30am and a full workday looms 6 hours away? There is nothing better than a Stanley Cup playoff game going into multiple overtimes. There is nothing worse than that alarm clock going off anything less than 4 hours after finally falling asleep. Vancouver and Dallas kicked of what I love most about the playoff...

Last night at the Canucks-Stars game, I saw something that likely didn't show up on the TV coverage or in any post-game media write ups. He gave Niklas Hagman a push off to the side of...

Just something short, since i'm in the lab right now supposedly doing homework/research, but playoff hockey makes me much too excited to think about things like that right now. Well it would seem like game 3 anyway. In game 1 they played almost a full 7 period game, and now they're heading into only game 2. While it didn't take over 6 hours to find a victor on Friday night, the game was much the same as the 7 period marathon witnessed on Wednesday- a Stars team out-skating, out-muscling, and out-playing the Canucks. The ducks dominated the 1st period scoring the lone tally. J.S. Gigiurre was sharp in goal. Happy Thanksgiving to all it was a nice game to be at!!
Don't let anyone ever tell you that hockey is just a physical game. Kudos to the Stars for giving Dave Tippett a contract extension. He has done a great job in Dallas overcoming injuries last year and a slow start and more injuries this year. 1 Year extensions seem to be the norm these days. In my last review of how relocated teams' history is vanishing, I'm reviewing the remaining Minnesota North Stars. As such, you'll see that there are few remaining players, but a larger Next Generation. Also, they'r...

Stars win Game 1 in OT!

Wow...what a stressful game to watch. I get the feeling the entire series will be cardiac-driven. Here are a few thoughts: 1) Again, the Stars played a complete team game. While certain players shined more than others in the end, it was a four-line effort. 2) Turco wasn't one of the night's 3 Stars? Take him out of the equation, and Dallas loses this game big time...

I'm not sure what happened to the Sharks last night but boy did that get messy. Quite the off game for Nabokov. The game started off very even. Both teams and goalies looked good. I mean the first two periods went that way. But what on earth happened in the third. San Jose just looked tired. Their defense was terrible so I guess you really can't put all the blam...
The Stars are in a great place right now. With a win tomorrow night, they can drive a stake through the heart of the Shark faithful. (Or would that be a harpoon?) When Dallas beat the Ducks in the first two games of the first round, Anaheim knew they deserved it with their level of play. I'm not so sure San Jose can comfort themselves the same way. *STARS have re-signed Steve Ott to a two-year extension! Once again, the Dallas STARS are one win away from advancing to another round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. ...We all know that "clank". It's the last minute of the game. Your team is down by one. They've pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. It's almost as if everything is moving in slow motion. "CLANK!" ...
Last night, the fans and everyone who believed the San Jose Sharks were different than years past, were once again disappointed. Looking back again at the 2008-09 NHL season, there were a number of players who failed to deliver on fantasy hockey expectations. We'll ignore the situations that were due largely to injuries (Zubov, Brodeur, etc.). That's a topic for another day. These guys tanked unexpectedly and can't blame the medics. Here are the top 11 fantasy disappointments of 08: 1. ...
He’s been highly touted as the “best goaltender outside of the NHL” and has been rumoured to be coming over to the NHL to play next season. There has been a lot of comparison lately between the summer of Sundin and this summer - the summer of "the Monster". But make no mistake about it, this is one heck of a tough decision for Gustavsson to make. The young goalie is still young...don't over-look that. Enver Lisin is now a NY Ranger. He comes from Phoenix for Lauri Korpikoski, who never hit his stride as a Ranger. Lisin netted 13 goals and put up 8 helpers on a financialy troubled and offensively lousy Coyotes team. In my opinion it is a great move by Glen Sather. Lisin is an RFA and can be used as trade bait to lure in the #1 center to feed Gaborik the puck. I do believ...

The Predators did something they don't do very often. Beat the Dallas Stars in Dallas. Two very important points for the Predators. This win though came at a price. The Preds lost JP Dumont to an injury in the second period when he was hit hard into the boards on a 2 on 1. It looked like a concussion, but no official word yet from the Predators. I just wanted to post a few quick thoughts on Saturday night's Texas Stars home opener in Cedar Park. The 1) Nothing against Krahn, but I'm just a huge Climie fan. He's fun to watch. The Predators played another really good defensive game. They blocked many of the Stars shots and out shot the Stars 33 to 29. The forwards did a good job of back checking to limit second chances by the Stars. On offense the Preds finally got another goal from Steve Sullivan and P. Hornqvist.
