I wish I did not have to pay for that ticket tonight. The wife was out with friends tonight so I figured I would take one in alone tonight, just me and the rest of the crazies up top. Well what I should have done was watch at home on the couch with the dog. I could have atleast changed the channel and caught some Seinfeld reruns that would have been more entertaining. Unfortunately that was not the case.
San Jose looked flat. They played a lackluster game last night in Phoenix and were able to squeak out a 1-0 win with a late second period goal. I do not know if they thought they could do that tonight or what, but what ever you call what they did out there, it did not resemble good hockey. They fumbled the puck all night long, it looked as if no one knew what was going on as they tried to bring the puck into the offensive zone, and because Joe Thornton did not have a good game, the Sharks got killed.
Here is a quick break down of some interesting stats..........
*I cringe every time I see Semenov step on the ice. I can not understand how he can get so much time on the PP, 6:35 to be exact, only Thornton had more at 7:01. He was 3rd on the team tonight in total ice time behind only Thornton, and Marleau.
*The Sharks turned the puck over 16 times tonight !
*As a team the Sharks were a -20 !
*Joe Thornton, 22:58 total ice time, 1 shot on goal !
*Curtis Brown scratched again !
The fact that Cheechoo left in the first with a groin injury, was actually a non-factor. I don't know what more I can say about tonight. San Jose needs a kick in the rear and has to get tougher. People, myself included, keep talking about making a change to get this offense going, but I think I realised something tonight. This team is nowhere near tough enough to win a cup. If they need to bring in anything to make this team better, it is some better protection and someone willing to mix it up. Jamie Baker made a ton of points about this tonight after the game, and I think he is right on the money. Nobody on this Sharks team has any will to go out and run a guy. Flat out, plain and simple, this team is too nice. until that changes they will be just a playoff team and not much more. Joe Thornton should not have to be the guy going out there taking a double minor late in the game.
Can't wait for Monday nights talkcast to vent a little on that situation. I will do a better recap in the morning possibly, right now I just don't even feel like getting any further into this.
Good Night!
oh boy oh boy that was a rough game. Couple of bad bounces and luck and here we are it just a slippery slope. Not happy with the results just kind of glad Ron Wilson got goo in the face for playing Semenov over McLaren.
After coming off an 8-2 loss vs the Kings like the Sabres did a couple nights before?!?! Lindy Ruff im sure laid into the team...The Sharks were just the team caught in the trap...you guys are a great team though...favorites to win the cup imho.
Don't forget that going in to last night's game that the Sharks were the best team in the West over the last 10 games, and only the Devils were better out of every team in the NHL. This is just one game.
"This team is too nice!" Maybe we can use that as the marketing moto for this years team? ;) Been saying that since Torres put a hurtin on Michalek! Until this team gets angry and mean, we can expect the usual results. There's too many golf courses in the Bay Area and you can see it on their faces sometimes!
this team is a good team, unfortunately this was a trap game. I figured Sabres would come out on top based on last two games they had, especially with the Sharks sneaking a couple one goal wins against other teams. Hopefully this wakes them up, and yes they need someone to start some sh*t out there. Too many people who are nice, Joe shouldn't be the one that has to show the aggression.
I would like to figure out this team they more talent than anything but once in a while I see a game like this tough break guys and a great blog capt
