So, I have browsed the Sharks message boards, the HockeyBuzz forums, and even asked a few people in chat to see what people thought of the new Sharks sweaters. What conclusion have I drawn? I'm not sure. It is a toss up right now, maybe a dead 50-50 like to dislike ratio. Personally I like them. The first thing that came to mind when I saw them was how much they reminded me of the Detroit Vipers sweaters from the, no longer in existence, IHL. Remember, Gordie Howe suited up to play 1 shift with them during the 97-98 season to become the only player to play in 6 decades.
Some fans are very vocal in their displeasure of the new look of the team. Others are all mixed up with the decision to change things up. They are asking, "Why change a good thing?". Most seem to be upset with the use of more orange in the color scheme. Simply using grey or black in place of the orange seems to be what a lot of fans would have preferred. It is, in my opinion, a move by the team to brighten things up. After getting handed an early summer vacation from the Detroit Red Wings a huge cloud loomed over the organization and fans all summer. The team dealt with the defeat, and are looking as happy as ever and they seem to be loving the new look. The players have nothing but good things to say about the new sweaters. In a way I believe it is a good way for the team to leave the sour taste of last seasons loss along with the old look. The crest looks great, although it could have been a tad bit bigger, and the colors work well I think. It will take some getting used to but it will catch on.
Fans of other teams seem to be liking it more than Sharks fans. The new look of the Reebok Edge jersey itself is going to take some getting used to by the fans and the players. Overall it is still a toss up over here in sunny (not for long) California.
New Look. New season. New goals.
Here is to a great looking new season. Hockey is back folks, and no matter what they look like, this team can play! Go Sharks!
