It has been said thousands of times...there is nothing like a game 7...win and advance, lose and go home! The Dallas Stars are one win away from pulling off the near impossible. They have finally won in overtime...they have finally won at home...and they have finally figured out how to solve Roberto Luongo. Though Marty Turco has the edge in stats, including THREE shutouts, Luongo has been phenomenal. But the Stars have done what needs to be done in each of their last four goals...drive the net and set a screen. If Luongo can see it, he will stop it. Each of the last four goals, and probably most of them in the series have come with someone screening Luongo or someone deflecting the puck in front of him. Dallas must continue this effort in order to score enough goals tonight to advance to Detroit. That being said, one goal may well be enough--again. Marty Turco and the Stars' defense have two consecutive shutouts, as well as two consecutive road shutouts. He has been rock-solid the last two games, stopping 42 shots in a row. The Stars have complete momentum heading into this game...they have purged some horrific stats...and they are playing like a contender. It is the Stars game to win or lose!
BUT...
When that puck drops in a little while, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS! Not the last two games, not the other four games, not the regular season, not past playoff performances, not even the color of socks they will wear. It is all about getting enough pucks past two sensational goalies to win the game and series. Will the Stars continue the trend of the last two games, shutting down the forwards and penetrating Luongo...or will the Canucks finally find enough offense to let Luongo take over? Whichever team wins, this series will go down in the record books. It has been an incredible goal-tender dual and though one will certainly lose tonight, Turco and Luongo deserve much praise.
Which team will find the net? Who will deliver in the clutch? Which team will play a full 60 minutes (or more) of hockey?
I have to admit...I like Dallas' chances...they do not lose game 7's.
GO STARS!
I'm sure Game 7s are sweet. Hopefully I'll find out sometime before the year 2013.
What's with all those penalties buddy?
They lost tonight...and 10 years ago vs Edmonton (a fact I still hate). It's not like they've never lost a game 7...
