I haven't blogged in awhile, but I can't sleep and I figured maybe somebody could get a laugh or groan out of some of this:
-Doug MacLean is part of the new ownership group of the Lightning. I hope for Tampa Bay fans that he leaves Jay Feaster alone. Feaster is a good GM, despite getting caught in a numbers issue with the big three. If MacLean forces him out, and replaces him with himself, look out. Columbus hasn't made the playoffs yet, and it's not because they had poor coaching.
-Mark Bell gets six months for a DUI incident. I see it as a case of being stupid run amok. Bell is also young enough that he can learn something from this and that is what you hope happens. I'd be surprised if he serves the full term, which starts at the end of the 2007-08 season. But all the JFJ bashers out there, take aim....ok just point the gun in his general direction, he's a big enough target.
-The NHL is seeing a slew of veteran players using Europe, especially Russia, as a bargaining tool. Count me as unsurprised. One unintended consequence of the salary cap could be that top players from Europe, who can make the same amount of money at home, won't come to the NHL. So far it's the dregs, the has beens and could be's. But what happens if a Russian team offers a kid like Cherepanov a huge deal?
-The NHL really screwed the pony when it failed to have each team unveil their new sweaters all at the same time, like last week, when there was no other real news. Then maybe I wouldn't get 5 hours of live broadcasting on my 24 hour hockey station, XM NHL Home Ice 204.
-Speaking of XM 204, why isn't Eddie Trunk on the "Hockey Today" show. They talk as much about 1980's hairbands as they do puck on some mornings. But why listen to Laughlin and Ric Flair talk about Van Halen, when I can just pop in the damned CD? BTW, yes, I am looking forward to that tour.
-Why is our site's founder plagued by morons whose sole purpose seems to be to unmask him? Maybe if these people, who have their own "sites", spent more time hunting down leads and getting info, they'd be more than sites that compile wire service reports and provide snarky comments on the content.
-You can safely assume you're a dedicated fan if you're wearing the sweater of a team that finished dead last at work, in August, because the line combos you drew up in your notebook that morning got you pumped....that or, you're certifiable.
-Clarification on that last one-I work in a computer repair shop where it's always 60 degrees farenheit. Kind of chilly to be wearing a tee-shirt and jeans. Ok, yeah, I do have issues.
-I was watching a game from the Flyers ten greatest game set, and actually started to miss the PBR ads that Versus would beat us over the head with last season. BTW, the Flyers won, 4-3 in OT.
-Why doesn't the NBC or Versus hire Denis Leary to do a US version of "Coach's Corner" for a national game broadcast. Leary loves the game, has a great sense of showmanship and if Dennis Miller didn't kill off Monday Night Football, why not give it a shot.
-The Rangers actually have the cap room-or can create it easily-to sign Mike Peca. I have been arguing that this CBA works. Now, I have to question that sentiment. Not that I see Peca as a make or break guy, but this CBA seems to have a few loopholes...the kind that an 18 wheeler can squeeze through, while riding on the deck of an oil tanker ship.
-My Five Forwards-Thanks to Eric Engels for the idea-Sid Crosby, Vincent Lecavalier, Alex Ovechkin, Danny Heatley, Joe Thornton. Sorry Eric, but Joe Sakic is 135 years old. Why not just name Howie Morenz or Jean Beliveau? Just kidding, EE, you rock!!!
-My Calder Pick: Jonathon Toews. Guy who will have a huge rebound year: Joffrey Lupul. Biggest drop off: Alexei Yashin....Buwhahahahahaha....sorry.
-"Jessica Alba in a hockey movie" might replace "Hello" as my standard greeting. Supposedly, The Godess, Mike Myers and Mini-Me are shooting a hockey themed flick. Mini-Me plays a coach. Shorty Bowman? Marc Smallford?
Ok, that's enough abuse.
Insomnia can do a lot of damage!! lol BTW Backstrom for the Calder!!
Worthy candidate, Slasher. That kid looks like he's going to be a star and soon.
You really need to write more often JS.. how about an Eagles preview?
Excellent Blog....Ohh by the wat Micheal Anthony lives up the street from me... Van Halen does "Rock". Jack Johnson for Calder...
Js, you should have insomnia more often! Looks like you work better when tired. I still like the Beatles the best, and I agree with Kinglove1 re: Jack Johnson for Calder.Keep on truckin, you rock!
JS - you ought to not sleep more often...you are much more lucid this way. Nice blog and I also agree that Jack Johnson will get the Calder. I hope Lupul has the kind of year you are talking about - he could be huge for the Orange and Black if that is the case. Jessica Alba in damn near anything is worthy of discussion...do you need a stick boy in your movie? I am your man...can I stand next to her a lot?Nice work.SYF
Doug McLean? Overrated. Mark Bell? Intoxicated. Jessica Alba? I'm elated! Toews for Calder would be a terrible trade for Chicago.
nice post man. - russia doesnt offer the appeal of the 2 greatest countries in the world. the glory, the money. they would never be thought of as great until they suit up against the best...jiri dopita anyone?- the jersey thing is kinda weak. - the whole unmasking thing. weak as well. this is a fun website. the pictures are already on the internet anyway for anyone who actually cares. go ahead ek. wont keep me from coming here. your sources are still secret.
Great idea about Dennis Leary, seriously. In addition, Maybe Mini-Me can play Coach Mike Kitchenette? Larry Playdirty? Peter Laviolittle?
Thanks guys. BF, where were you at 2 AM with those names? Mike Kitchenette!!!
You have a talent js a very good talent great job keep up the good work
myhockeybuzz or not...this happens to be one of the best blogs i've seen on the site js. It's not just cause I know you, and I know how funny you can be...these are good ideas, put together in a simple editorial. It has comedic value, and it also has a lot of truth in it. It also emulates passion, which in my opinion, is a great way to relate to your readers...very impressive!
Great blog JS. Write some more like this on a weekly basis. Great content buddy!
Ignore Engels. These are the demented eruptions of a troubled mind. But funny...
LOVE the idea of Dennis Leary doing a "Coach's Corner"!! Could you imagine if you locked Dennis Leary and Don Cherry in a room together? Think about that the next time you can't sleep...Great blog!
JS way to wear the orange and black proudly, I wish I could do that but being a network admin in an office where I can't even wear my Flyers' tie leaves me jealous!!!! Go Flyers!
Yes, you definetly have more interesting thoughts when you're sleep deprived than when you are supposedly awake.. j/k.. :)
Very interesting Blog. Nicely done, especially considering the hour it was written!
THE FLYERS WON 4-3 IN OVERTIME??? Thanks a lot. I was going to sit down with a couple of beverages and a bag a nachos and watch it tonight. Well, at least you didn't say who scored. Real nice job by the way. I've always said that sleep was overrated.
Baby keeping you up or you can't figure out who to drop from the top two lines to get Lupul in there? I work at a newspaper and last month I did my tour de hockey jersey. Different jersey every work day for the entire month. My Landschutt Cannibals jersey always gets a lot of double takes.
You need to have trouble sleeping more often. Great blog. Seriously you need to do this more often...you were quick and to the point and added some comedy. Very nice!!
Jsaq...Who knew you were so sophisticated. Great Blog!! Nice work!
