While Gomez, Staal and Dubinsky will hit the road and travel to Atlanta for the All-Star
Weekend (thank goodness), the rest of the Ranger team will be preparing for a road trip of their own. The Rangers will be playing in Carolina, Philadelphia, New Jersey and Montreal in a six day span beginning Tuesday. The struggling Blueshirts will not be able to walk over these opponents as they did against the virtually Kovalchuk-less Thrashers. This one may feel a bit more like this:
The Rangers, currently ninth in the Eastern Conference with 54 points, are going to need to get 40 more points in 31 games to get to the playoffs. Figure that requires a 20-10-1 record the rest of the way, something this team does not seem capable of doing. It will be a tall order for a team that has gone 4-6-2 in January to beat the 2,3,4 and 5 seeds in the East, all on the road mind you. This can be looked at as an opportunity to turn around the ship but only a fool would believe that the Rangers will be able to return home better off than they are now. No, this may just be another lost week in New York. So Rangers fans, brace yourselves because this trip may make you feel...well...
I have faith in the post-A.S.G. Lundqvist.
The Rangers need to add a point man to solve thier PP issues. If this Blake rumor is true I hope he can make it to NC by Tuesday. They need to solidify thier backup spot too.
Honestly, I could see both the Rangers and Sabres missing the playoffs. I mention the Sabres too because I don't want you to think I'm saying NYR will miss the playoffs just because I'm a Sabres fan. I'm saying it objectively
This Ranger team will not make the playoffs. Changes are needed, but I don't see them coming.......
