Time to start a lengthy conversation. Is it possible that the Flyers centers of Richards and Carter are approaching the top echelon of dominate players in the league. Unlike Crosby and Malkin, Richards and Carter do not play on the same line ever. Ovechkin and Semin can be considered but Semin is still not a top guy, this pair is all AO - who I consider the best player in the game. I am not claiming anything - just looking for some opinions. Being an east coast guy, I don't get to see much west coast hockey. Fill me in on some of the great duos in the west!
Flyers Notes!
I am really liking the changes in the defensive combinations and lines that Stevens has made a few weeks back. The injury to Briere forced the offensive changes, but Gagne and Richards look spectacular together. I believe that Briere once he is ready, will fit nicely on the 3rd line with Lupul and Nodl. The other top 6 of Richards between Gagne and Knuble while Carter centering Upshall and Hartnell are two very solid lines. Briere can help create on a third line. This is the kind of depth that is needed for a playoff run.
On the backend, the Finns are an awesome pair. Coburn and Carle are a top quality pair and the 3rd pair can be staffed with a number of players.
This team looks solid. After having the most balance attack last season, the Flyers are not only balanced, but also have 3 or 4 guys that can dominate!
I wouldn't say the Flyers are balanced this year. They're 23rd in the League in ES goals. They're a dominant team on the PP and PK, But they need to get better at 5 on 5.
look at detroit, sjs, colorado and chicago to name a few...
I wouldn't say its all OV. Semen is a very good player
I am saying that Semin is an up and commer, but not a top player at the moment. Let's face it, the other coach doesn't try to stop Semin they work to stop AO!The duo of Carter and Richards is the best pair in the NHL at the moment. They are both dominate on the ice!
