Can someone tell me why Brian Propp is not in the Hockey Hall of Fame? He played 16 NHL Seasons, played in 1016 games, 425 Goals, 579 Assists, for 1004 points. In NHL history he has the ,ost points by a left wing in the NHL playoffs (64 goals, 84 assists for 148 points). He played in the Stanley Cup Finals 5 times in those 16 seasons. He is a totally class act that has always been under appreciated and under rated.
Can someone explain me the method for Hall of Fame selection and why he has been virtually ignored? I am not talking about a marginal player here.
He should get in.
The Hall of Fame selection is done by a commitee. Unfortunately, there is no real fromula for hall selection. Due to opinion of the committe, some people get in who may or may not be deserving, and others, who seem like sure fire hall of famers wait years to get in, if ever. I believe only four selections are made on a yearly basis, therefore, there's going to be some deserving players on the outside looking in.
Still seems wrong.
maybe he has just flown under the radar..make posts and statements in more public areas so he gets some public attention... the nhl might have just forgot about him..
I have the utmost respect for Propp, but his numbers don't justify his inclusion in the HHOF when so many others with better numbers also aren't there. He played in the highest scoring era of the NHL and didn't have any season with 50 goals or 100 points or a cup win. I know he was way more valuable to his team than just in terms of points, but that seems to be the major factor for induction.
With players like Gilmour, Oates, Andreychuk, Turgeon, Housley, Ciccarelli, Nieuwendyk, Nicholls, Damphouse, Verbeek, and Leetch (just to name a few) still not selected for the Hall, and more players every year becoming eligible, Propp may continue to be ignored for recognition. It's too bad though because he was a better all around player and teammate than many who are in the Hall.
*disregard Leetch in the previous post - he's in the Hall
yeah... I don't like that everyone with a cup ring or a couple all-star seasons gets into hockey's HoF... just look at Cooperstown and its ridiculous admittance requirements to know how to run a real HoF.
Basically, if they didn't play on the oilers dynasty, they're not getting in.
He outscored every left wing in history in the Playoffs - where it matters the most!
Well make him a statue and put it outside the hall front door?
