Buffalo Wings

Everyone spoke to how fast, talented and overpowering the Sabres were in the regular season, including yours truly. But, as I have stated before and others before me, the playoffs are a different time of year. Winning the President's Trophy means two things, you get a nice trophy and you get home ice advantage throughout the playoffs. Home ice advantage. Who cares?...
It’s been a long wait for both Senator and Duck fans, but it all begins tonight (May 28th, 2007). This battle should be a good one and the physical prowess of both teams will be shown early on. The epic face off has the Senators big 3 (Alfie-Spezza-Heatley) going up against two Norris Troph...
Welcome to the 2007 NHL off-season. That would be the new NHL. The cap-era NHL. The fiscally responsible NHL. The $8-million per year for Scott Gomez NHL. This would be a good time to re-read the title of this blog. As they have before and as they always will, NHL general managers will bid all their pretty pennies on the top unrestricted free agents available t...

Heatley stays

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
Woot woot. Per TSN, Heatley will be a Sen for at least 6 more years. Gotta say, signing him for under 8 is nothing less than a coup for Bryan Murray. People can only speculate what he could have gotten on the open market, but obviously it could easily be a million or two higher. Next up for the Sens will be Spezza, although don't be shocked if Kelly is the priority...

After the first two games of the season here are a few thoughts The Leafs started the season with two games against the defending Eastern Conference champions and started 0-1-1. When you look at the record it's not really that impressive in fact it's kind of ugly. With that being said all I have to say is don't worry fellow Leaf fans it could be a lot worse. The Leaf...

Montreal CHEATED in Game 4

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
First, let's make something very clear. I am happy for Daniel Briere and Martin Biron tonight. I loved them while they were in Buffalo, and I still love them. They're the type of guys I'm going to follow the rest of their careers, regardless of where they play. Also, kudos to the Flyers in general for coming up big when it mattered most in this pivotal game 4. But.....
EDIT:Sorry about the wierd symbols and punctuation in this blog, I dont know why its doing this and I'm unsure how to fix it It has to be a very slow news day for the NHL today. The top story this morning is Jesse Winchester practicing on the top-line with Heatley and Spezza. I’m sure I’m not alone in Sens Nation wondering why this is big news, every year we go ...
Hockey is upon us once again! As much as I like baseball playoffs, nothing beats Game 1 (in North America) of the NHL season in my eyes. And I really couldn't believe my eyes when the Leafs survived three posts in the first 10 minutes of the game to win 3-2 against the Wings. Absolutely brutal game to watch, but a trap system played very effectively by the Blue and Whi...

So here's something that really gets to me.. Yea I’m not liking what Heatley’s doing, but what was management thinking when they gave him the “A”, permanently?! I remember watching the first or second game since he'd been promoted; with that fancy letter on his jersey he started it off with an undisciplined 10 minute misconduct cross-check to a player the opposing ...
I thought we would play fantasy hockey; pretend that we are all fantasy general managers (in my case it is really fantasy). What would you give up to get the Heater? Is Danny the franchise player, or better yet, does he make the players around him better? Well, first of all, you can bet the Sens would like to get a top dman and number one prospect. Also, maybe another ...

Now that the Hockey Offseason has kicked off, I would like to propose some deals that I believe make many teams better. Who Will be at the Helm? This is the major cloud that's been looming over Calgary for the last couple weeks. Darryl or Brent? Sutter or Sutter? Even with the firing of Dave Tippett in Dallas (which doesn't make a whole lotta sense, but is an issue for another day), the Calgary Flames have been super quiet about what's going on in the search for a head ...

Heatley to be a Ranger?

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
According to a recent post by Eklund the Rangers may be close to acquiring Dany Heatley from Ottawa. Here is what Eklund had to say, "* The Rangers are reportedly offering a deal that may include Chris Drury to the Sens for Dany Heatley. A source close to the scene in NY said that "There are major wheels in motion, and I believe Heatley to be a Ranger by Sunday." Person...
Let me start by saying that I am a Leafs fan and in no way shape or form do I have a liking for the Ottawa Senators. I wanted to ask the masses of people out there if Dany Heatley may have a point in all of this. Personally, I think Heatley is a bum and that he will get what he deserves (contract ripped up, lifelong injury etc...). I was quite disapointed for Ottawa...

Who Blinks First?

It would seem that what we have with the Dany Heatley situation is a high stakes game of chicken between Ottawa, the Rangers and Dany Heatley. Yesterday the Oilers agreed to trade a package of Andrew Cogliano, Ladislav Smid and Dustin Penner to the Senators in exchange for Heatley. According to TSN's Bob Mackenzie, Heatley has not yet agreed to waive his No Movement Clause...

The Edmonton Perception

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
Heatley has asked for a trade, just not to Edmonton. Bouwmeester wanted to come to Alberta, just not to Edmonton. Those are the latest two players to put further black marks on the city of champions, a trend that started with Chris Pronger and his exodus from Edmonton. This is not a rant about how much Edmonton sucks, because it doesn't, but there is a truth out there ...
DANNY HEATLEY SAGA NHLPA is standing behind Heatley. Well, technically he is not doing anything wrong. Morally is another story. When it comes to pure talent, I am one of his biggest fans. I love watching Heater play. I am a huge fan of his play, but right now I am not a fan of his attitude. When it comes to a player, I would like to be a fan of the hockey pla...
It's been two weeks since Dany Heatley twice declined to accept a trade to Edmonton that would have Andrew Cogliano, Dustin Penner and Ladislav Smid to Ottawa. I'm not going to lie, initially I was furious. The idea of freeing up $2.117M in cap space while simultaneously acquiring a young promising talent like Cogliano, excited me to no end. Anxiously awaiting Dany's decis...
As I conclude my work day, I thought I'd kill off the last little with some random thoughts on various goings on in the NHL over the last few days. Kovalev signing in Ottawa: I think that might mean Heatley is going to be moved. Kovy's cap hit is going to make it almost impossible to stay under the cap unless they do. Too much money for Kovalev too. Beauchemin signs...
For my inaugural blog I want to start things off with a radical headline such as: “Stanley Returning to Oil Country in 2010” Unfortunately a title that unbelievable would only appeal to fans living in a fantasy world and, since Edmonton doesn’t look much like middle earth last I checked, I’ve been struggling to think up a more realistic headline. “Why...
Danny Heatley will not be making a decision today. I have conformation that Heatley will not be making a decision tonight and probably not in the near future. Dany Heatley

What if the Rangers were to land Dany Heatley? Who would they give up? Ryan McDonaugh was aquired from Montreal because Murray wanted him in exchange for Heatley. Rozsival and Zherdev are the two biggest trade bait as of now and one of them is expected to be dealt. I feel that maybe a three way trade may be going down between the Rangers, Sharks, and Senators. This could b...
The latest in the Dany Heatley Soap Opera (according to ESPN.com) is that the Senators have rejected a trade offer that would have sent Sharks RW Jonathan Cheechoo and offensive defenceman Christian Erhoff to Ottawa for Heatly. Reasons why the trade was not accepted were not posted, but judging by what I've read all summer long it came down to money. Since Heatley's ...
August is usually a quiet time in the NHL. Most of the relevant free agents have been signed, the big trades have been made and teams are just gearing up for training camp. This is my first in-depth look at the cap...so bear with me. As of today, the cap numbers being supplied from NHLSCAP.com state that the Rangers have about $2.9 million left for the 2009-2010 season. Danny Heatley is running out of options. In reality, he has to reconsider his decision to demand to be traded to certain cities. I have heard only rumors on which team he has on his list. Dany Heatly has officially been traded. The summer-long soap opera of the poster-boy for millionaire crybabies is over, but was it really a good deal for all involved? An Interesting Look at Who Has the Hat-Tricks This Season We are more than halfway through the 2009-2010 season, and there are many teams that have surprised fans. The league leading Chicago Blackhawks are one of those eigh...
I think it's kind of fun to be able to watch your farm team play a few games here and there for an average fan to really get an idea of what you have in the system. Since the Heat will be on TV a few times, against Toronto every time, we will be able to see what is cooking down there, if anything. If you are lucky you may even catch a Jim Playfair melt down! The problem wi...
Luongo. There are guys in the NHL who play for the money and those that play to win. I have to wonder where Luongo falls with these guys. Yet after signing a long term contract he had a noticeable slump in his play, I know Vancouver fans are going to jump on this but if you're happy with his performa...
The Flames have been under the microscope with their farm system. There have been a lot of negative comments on the Flames' drafting. I, for one, have really questioned the Flames' picks. They have always ...
A well deserved 2 game suspension for Heatley for an elbow to Otts head last night. This is one of the dumbest things I have seen Heatley do. There was very little need to throw this elbow (I am a fan of anyone who smacks Ott around but not like this). Overall I do wish some team would give the Sharks a real nice offer for Heatley, he is a good player but nowhere worth ...
So I guess we will start out with the end of our playoffs. To me these play offs were just ok. I never felt like the sharks were going to dominate a series. We almost dominated the wings but we all know how that went. To me the sharks were relying on their size and puck possession as the only offense. This can work well but isn't the hardest thing to defend when you kn...
