I have thought long and hard about this. It has been something I have been pondering for almost half of a year now.
Yes, the time has come for me to put away the keyboard and retire from my "position" here at MyHockeyBuzz.
Let me explain.
Next year I am going off to college, starting a new stage in my life. With big changes like leaving home and moving into a dormitory coming up, I was forced to think long-term and how much I want to continue this. Yes, I love blogging. I have a tremendous passion for it but it also takes up a lot of time and effort. Blogging here was not going anywhere new and I would be stuck in the anonymity of MYHB for years to come if I continued as is. Additionally, I wanted to focus more on my studies and not be distracted at important times, for example during finals, by the need to plan and write a blog. Finally, the Rangers seem to be stuck in a rut. It seemed that every year was very repetitive and my ability to find new and interesting angles was waning.
So I will no longer be blogging.
I just wanted to say a few things before I go.
In my two years blogging here I have been motivated by two things. My fandom and my ego. It is a great feeling to be able to look back at old blogs and see so many comments praising my work. I really appreciate every single comment that anyone ever posted, whether it be to compliment or criticize, to agree or argue. Either way, I knew that people were reading what I took the time to write and that validated every second of it. Nobody writes something and then throws it out, the point is to let others read it and appreciate it. You, reader, are the reason I write, and I thank you.
Next up, I would like to thank Eklund. Yes, this site has many faults but there is no hockey website that has the quality of bloggers and posters that this site has. Believe me, I gone through many hockey forums and none compare to this one. Additionally, the innovative idea of letting any member write a blog is absolutely amazing and unique. That was the biggest draw for me, as a blogger. Good luck with all of your endeavors.
My boys on the Rangers boards. We have gone through highs and lows during these two years but being able to discuss them with you guys made it so much more fun. Hours upon hours of arguing and agreeing about everything Rangers. Nothing beats that. (Well a Stanley Cup, maybe). It may be a while before we get our Cup and it hurts that I won't be around to blog about it when we do. Hope all of you enjoy the coming years of hockey.
Let's Go Rangers!
My partners in crime on MYHB. There are so many of you but three of you really stood out to me and made an impression.
Flamestr. Steal_Your_Faceoff. C4LL4W4Y.
Flamestr and SYF, you guys were here before I came and I always looked up to you as role models. Both of you are great bloggers. You guys are interesting, smart and respectful and that means a lot. I only hope people view my work in the same light that they view yours. Cally, being that you are a very knowledgeable NHL guy and a Rangers fan, I must say that I have read every single one of your blogs and enjoyed each thoroughly. It was great covering the Rangers together during this past season. Keep it up, the mantle of Rangers blogging on MYHB has passed solely to you.
Scott Gallof. Besides taking the job I was hoping for (no hard feelings
) you have really covered the Rangers in a unique and interesting way. Your original images really encapsulated the themes of your interesting and well written blogs. When you are working in the Photoshop, a picture is really worth a thousand words. Keep up the great work.
Everybody else on HockeyBuzz, enjoy the site, don't complain so much. It really was a privilege to post here and I am saddened to be giving it up. We are all brothers as fans of the best sport in the world (that nobody else realized is the best sport yet).
If I offended anybody during my time here, I apologize. I didn't mean it. And even when I meant it, I commented in the heat of the moment and bear no hard feeling against you. I hope you feel the same way.
That's all. I will still be around on the boards until the summer and you can send me a PM if you would like. Also, a comment here would be appreciated so when I look back at the final blog in years to come, I see your name and get that good feeling I was talking about.
It's been a great ride.
But it is time to say goodbye.
Sincerely,
Alex Scharf A.K.A. Rags2Riches
Say it ain't so Rags. Hey man, much respect to you for your insightful blogs
you will be missed It mean a lot to me for you to mention myself take care my friend.
as a rival of your team, i loved reading your stuff. You had great insight and you always came up with unique angles at which to write. It's a shame you were never offered a job by Eklund. Best of luck in college.
You were always a great blogger here, Rags. You'll be missed!
R2R, you can take a leave of absence from HB but you don't have to leave permanently. So, just concentrate on what is important. For the immediate future that would be school and all that is associated with the great college/university experience! Meanwhile, visit HB and post a few comments - maybe even an occasional blog. You're not leaving hockey behind so no reason to leave Hockey Buzz. Best to you. Study hard and make it count.
Blueline, I may return in a few years and I am definitely not stopping to be a hockey fan. But for the near future (and by that I mean at least 2 years) I am done. Of course you will believe it when you see it. But at least I believe that it is true though there are no guarantees. We will see.
good luck with your school endeavours R2R . If you feel the need to drop by don't feel you can't just because you said you're done. I'm sorry things didn't work out with the blogger contest. I hope you get a chance to do more writing. You're not so bad for a Rags fan GO PENS>
Rags I'm sorry to see you go. I've enjoyed reading your blogs in my short time here. Good luck with school. It's a grind, but you'll enjoy it when it's all done (I'm almost there!!!!)
sorry to see yet another great HB blogger leave...Good luck with school, I guess I'm gonna have to be a bit less obsessed with this site next year too.
In the words of Curly Bill. Bye.....
You'll still post of course right? Once you start school I believe you'll realize you can have some free time so maybe you'll still post on Scotty G'z blogs? Either way it's been fun ragsy...
You will be missed Rags! Good luck and godspeed!!!!
Good luck with school, Rags. Don't be a stranger around here...

Hey Rags2Riches, it has always been a pleasure reading your work, and this is coming from an Islander fan. Best of luck to you in college. I understand how you feel, as I am in college now and you truly run out of time to write blogs, as you are too busy writing papers and reading obscene amounts. Best of luck to you in your future, and check back sometime soon.
always enjoyed your entries. college is a breeze, enjoy it.
Good luck, kiddo. Moving off to college is scary but fun, so enjoy it. Keep writing, even if you're not blogging on here. It will help you with your term papers in college, trust me. :)
Best of luck in school. I enjoyed your take on many NYR issues. I respect your mature and responsible decision to dedicate yourself to this new chapter in your life. I'm sure your family is very proud.
Best of luck, Ragsy. You are destined from great things, and I knew that the first time I read one of your blogs.
