The Experts?

So you are at your local magazine shop, or perhaps you are perusing your usual sports website...and suddenly you see a Hockey forecaster for the upcoming 2007-2008 season...you have probably found yourself skimming over it with a grimace as you read the usual misguiding, mishandled, misinterpreted, and obviously mistaken garble that they call:

How many Islander fans roll their eyes at those vaunted from the Hockey mountain, coming down like some gray old wise man, and then expounding such unquantified dreck that you want to launch them back up that mountain via a cannon?

I figured it would be pretty much all of you.

Year after year, they are wrong...yet they always do the same thing...usually picking us dead last.

ESPN, who in the last few years, wouldn't even recognize a puck even if it clobbered them over their noggin, has, as usual, imported their hockey analysis from elsewhere. If there is a website that can be any more useless towards the sport of hockey, I need to know. Year after year, they have simply peeled away their hockey people on their website, even years before the lockout.

So, one morning I awake, rub my eyes, and spy The Hockey New's Adam Proteau on the ESPN website, telling me about the Atlantic division. I figure this has to be some sort of mistake, since ESPN surely has some sort of football or basketball embarrassment they could focus on? But, yet, here it is.

So, Adam, old pal...bring me your scintillating hockey wisdom. Show me that you can really assess Long Island. I mean, year after year, you and THN picks us dead last, and have never quite got us right in their Fantasy or pre-season guide. But, hey, it's a new year. So, let me read what he has to say:

Dead last. Our only chance of doing anything requires magic beans.

Sigh.

Oh, Adam, you silly man you. Haven't you learned by now?

How true. ESPN = Especially Spurious Patronizing Numbskulls and THN (to which I pay too much money) = Tantalizingly Hokey News. (No misspell on hokey.)

ha ha. well said.These guys should thank their lucky stars because half of of here could write the same drivel with the accuracy that they do.

Hey cob, you got that. Many of those on HB (bloggers and those commenting) write a hell of a lot better and with a lot more class. Plus, they are more interesting and probably more accurate!

Three things you can take to the Bank every year. Someone at ESPN picks the Yankees to win the WS, The Rangers to win the Stanley Cup and the Isles to come in dead last. How do these guys keep their jobs?
