Just when you were wondering: Why are the Isles carrying so many defensemen?
Just announced by the Isles:
Islanders defenseman Bryan Berard will be sidelined approximately 2-4 weeks with a groin injury suffered during the team's 4-3 overtime victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night at Nassau Coliseum.
Berard two goals and two assists for four points in five games this season.
'Bryan has been a big part of our success this season, especially on the power play,' said Islanders head coach Ted Nolan. 'I'm confident Bryan will do everything in his power to get healthy and back in the lineup soon. The good news is our blue line has a lot of depth, so this is an opportunity for other players to step up.'
This obviously should be the incentive
Marc-Andre Bergeron needs to play himself out of Nolan's doghouse and into the lineup.
Aaron Johnson also might fill that gap, like he did when pressed into service from his 4th line experiment. It is more likely MAB gets first shot to play himself back into good graces, with Johnson continuing on the 4th line.
More on the Isles later.

Nice commentary. The only upside about this happening now is that the Islanders schedule is completely wide open as we play so few games in such an extended period of time. In retrospect, he will miss four games. The positive is that this will allow us to see Aaron Johnson's presence on the defensive line as I have been very intrigued to see his defensive play. Also, this could be Marc-Andre Bergeron's opportunity to seize a defensive spot again and maybe even run with the power-play and his booming shot!
If he misses two week he may only miss 3 games, what kind of schedule are the Isles playing right now? That is foolish and not fair to the players IMO.
Anyone else think they are masking a shoulder injury with a groin? Berard' shoulder was definetely barking in the 1st period with the Devils, so bad he would not check with it in the 1st when he tried to play. All the sudden, he is out with a groin pull....hmmm
