From the Philadelphia Inquirer:
An NHL executive said last night that replay officials in Toronto were not given the proper replays by Fox Sports in Pittsburgh on Thursday, when they ruled that Simon Gagne's goal did not count against the host Penguins.
Gagne swatted a second-period rebound that Penguins goalie Brent Johnson smothered and appeared to carry into the net. It was not ruled a goal on the ice, and when replay officials in Toronto viewed the replays, they said the evidence was "inconclusive" and did not count the goal.
A few minutes after the ruling, another replay was shown in the press box, showing the puck past the goal line.Fox did not send that replay to Toronto officials until after the puck was dropped following the ruling. "At that point, the ruling was permanent," said John Dellapina, an NHL executive.
The Flyers' telecast was using the Pittsburgh video feed and did not have any video to send to Toronto.
Are you kidding me? The league accepts the video from the team to show the goal. Is there a penalty or incentive for the home team to show a goal against? This is crazy. At least in this case it didn’t affect the outcome of the game.
Funny how the angle that clearly showed the goal was "held" and only shown after the Penguins "got the break" according to their broadcast team.
They were getting the feed from Pittsburgh...
it makes ya wonder.....how often do they do this kind of stuff.. how often have they won a game they shouldn't have?
I watched that in disgust. And I'm a Penguin fan. That had to be deliberate.
This just posted on CSN Philly site....The NHL is investigating Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh for not sending all video of Simon Gagne’s apparent goal to the league’s headquarters in Toronto. A camera angle that showed the puck crossing the goal line was never received.
Was this a team related broadcast or just FSN Pittsburgh? Can the team be punished? What type of punishment?
Yeah...the whole thing stinks. It makes the Penguins and their fans look bad too. Even though it might feel good as a Flyer's fan, to see the team suffer for what the network did, that wouldn't be fair if the team had nothing to do with it, would it? You guys at least go the ultimate revenge...you kicked our butts on the scoreboard.
