Mats Sundin the all time Leaf scoring leader is rumoured to be willing to waive his no trade clause for certain teams in a bid to help the Leafs future, i being a Leaf fan would love to see the Big Swede return in the summer, since at this time we do not have anyone who can replace Sundin's point production, Sundin will most likely be traded along with a current roster player to the whatever destination he wil end up in.
Here are some scenerio of trades that id like to see happen:
1) Sundin along with Kaberle (will need to waive NTC) to Vancouver for Ryan Kesler, Matias Ohlund, Luc Bourdon, Juraj Simek and the Canucks 1st Round pick in 2008.
2) Sundin along with Tucker (will need to waive NTC) to Calgary for Matthew Lombardi, Dustin Boyd, Eric Nystrom and the Flames 1st Round pick in 2008.
3) Sundin to Anaheim for Bobby Ryan and the Ducks 1st Rounder acquired from Edmonton.
4) Sundin along with Kubina (will need to waive NTC) to the Rangers for Peter Prucha, Marc Staal, Nigel Dawes and the Rangers 1st Round Pick in 2008.
5) Sundin along with Kaberle to Pittsburgh for Ryan Malone, Ryan Whitney, Jordan Staal and the Penguins 1st Round pick in 2008.
The Sundin trade will start a snowball of other trades for the Leafs the only untouchable Leafs at this point would be Toskala and all the younger prospects like Tlusty, Stralman, Earl etc.
Which trade scenerio for Sundin would you be most interested in seeing happen?
As great as all those deals sound, I really don't think any of them will come close to happening, the teams are giving way too much up.
I don't know where, or if you actually get this information from any valid source, but you are dreaming buddy. I mean, you may as well reunite the Staal brothers in Toronto. How 'bout this: Sundin for Eric Staal, straight up. Wait, maybe Jim Rutherford will give up a first rounder too. Then we'll trade Kaberle to New York for Marc, maybe get a draft pick too. Then, I hear Pittsburgh may need a goalie, so lets give them Raycroft for Jordan Staal. When you blog, you gotta make sense. I don't know how long you've been doing this, but lets get serious here. Nobody wants Kaberle, Tucker, and anyone else, not named Sundin, that the Leafs have.
Mikeychez, you are wrong buddy. Tucker is likely going to get picked up by seombody and kaberle would obviously create a lot of interest. It's not the best blog in the world, but the guy is tryin to come up with possible scenario's. Give him a break!
I can't see the Flames giving up three of next years slated roster players. Especially ones that have a combined contract of less than 4 million. Sorry.
Somebody WILL take on these guys, but cmon, let's be realistic. Nobody is gonna give up a top flight prospect for Tucker. Kaberle, maybe, but he comes with a huge price tag. They are gonna have trouble finding players in this game. Now, the only Sundin proposal that this blog suggests, that makes sense, is the Anaheim deal. However, I don't think Brian Burke will give up the first rounder he got from Edmonton. It's a spite pick. He's hoping Edmonton finishes as close to the bottom as possible, so he can get a real blue-chipper. I could see Anaheim giving up their first rounder, and maybe a roster guy, whose salary they need to rid themselves of.
I don't think teams will give up their young, core roster players and draft picks for a rental player. Before you post these ridiculous trade proposals you need to put yourself in the other teams shoes.
This is the dumbest post I've ever read on this site.
Actually it's the dumbest post I've ever read on the Internet.
"Sundin along with Kubina (will need to waive NTC) to the Rangers for Peter Prucha, Marc Staal, Nigel Dawes and the Rangers 1st Round Pick in 2008"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHALOL
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Wow. I don't even know if this type of felonious robbery would occur in a fantasy league - let alone reality.
I'd like the Rangers to trade Ryan Hollweg for Sidney Crosby.
Let the lambasting begin!!!! Great ideas.... but I don't think ANY of them will happen. Of course I would love for each and every one to happen but.... uh.... doubtful. It would be great if everyone on this board had to eat some crow on Feb. 27th though! lol
Well, the column writer is a T.O. fan, so cut him some slack if his deals are a little (ok, a lot) skewed, especially for a rental like Mats.Cgy gets - Sundin, AntropovT.O. gets - pick ONE of Lombo, Nystrom or Boyd, 2nd round pick in '08, 1st rounder in '09Think of it as the picks for Mats, and the player for Nik.btw ... I would suggest to T.O. that they pick Boyd - that kid is starting to show flashes of something special... it would be hard to give him up, but you gotta give to get, I suppose...
Well, I hear the Leafs are looking at Sidney Crosby!! Maybe Pittsburgh will take Andre Raycroft for Crosby. We may just throw in Hal Gill!!! HaHaHa
I like the trade to Calgary, however i would offer up Sundin and Antropov (calgary has rumored interest in the big man) for Backlund, Boyd, 1st rd pick in 08 with a condition that T.O gets an additional 1st in 09 if Sundin resigns with the flames. Calgary fans, do i have any takers?
Anyone who thinks that Sundin and Kaberle won't get huge returns are kidding themselves. Toronto will get the same return for Sundin as Philly got for Forsberg.... if not more. Young roster player, a prospect and a 1st round pick. AS for Kaberle, he won't get as much, but since he isn't a rental player, and is incredibly cheap, he would bring back a fair bit. Prospect/current young roster player and a 1st or 2nd round pick depending on what team he went to.
Ok Mike, Let me try to understand this. "Kaberle Maybe, but he comes with a huge price tag". Umm....ok. Are you for real? Let's break it down for you. Kaberle 4.25 Million a year and is signed through 2011. 7 Goals 27 Assists 34 Points. Redden 6.5 Million a year and is a UFA at the end of the season. 6 Goals 26 Assists 32 Points. So, if teams were calling on Redden and there seemed to be some pretty good interest....Then how will there not be for Kaberle? Think about it. Oh, and btw....I wouldn't bring up Raycroft. He may suck, but at least he shows up for practise, and not sure the last time he had a fight with a teamate.
teams will give up big for suds or fletch WILL not move him. some team will get desperate in the 11th hour...u watch as a team will give up a player, prospect and a first rounder in next years draft. he is the best player out there and makes any team a contender to win it all. He's a point a game, top 3 in otwg, gwg, and third period goals and points. Why wouldn't you want this guy on your team any team in this league is beyond me. Ottawa could use a leader on that team but he'll never waive his notrade to go there. He's a future hall of famer and will be in the mlse front office when he retires
Actually I think he would waive his NTC for Ottawa if the opportunity arose.
Chez, you're an idiot... Kaberle has a high price tag?4.25M is high for a top 10 dman?
The first deal is not enough for Sundin and Kaberle. Sundin and Antropov for that of throw in a conditional first if the Nucks make it to 2nd round or Western Conference Finals.
Sundin and anyone else for Doug Weight and Joe Dipenta
the trade with backlund is to steep sutter won't agree to give up that much of the future for a player who can leave in the summer he is not a big rental fan as for the other trades i would love to see the vancover trade go down the way he has it but honestly what are you smoking that is like a top four pairing along with picks and and other roster players
i think if sundin gets traded it won't be for picks and prospects but more like the scenario that brought him here in the first place. a player who has had at least 1 proven season and will take over the team for 10 years...i'd also like to see that more than having to develop and hope for players to pan out.
Here's the thing about Toronto... the player's aren't as great as they seem when the team is winning (ie Potvin, Gilmour) and they aren't nearly as bad as they seem when they are losing. The Leafs actually do have a great deal of talent... to suggest that there are no takers for players like Kaberle, Sundin, Tucker and McCabe is fooling yourself. To think that teams would give up such exorbitant amounts of talent as suggested by the blogger is equally foolish. Cliff Fletcher is not just going to give away talented guys with bad contracts like Tucker, McCabe, or Kubina for nothing when they are playing badly, because he will be able to deal them later for value when they are playing well. Think of what Forsberg or Tkachuk brought in, and that is the starting price for Sundin.
Kaberle will nto go with Sundin he is too valuable, Teams will not give up their future for Sundin. Stop dreaming in techno-colour
Coming from a Habs fan, that's rich
i think 3 or 4 are the best dealswith Fletcher, the leafs might be able to start up a bidding war. Should be an interesting couple weeks
I'm sorry, but the more I look at it, the more the Pittsburgh and New York deals seem like jokes... at least the Sundin to Vancouver and Tucker to Calgary rumours actually have legs... but where did New York come from? They have Drury and Gomez already, why would they overpay hugely for Sundin? Sure, Pittsburgh would like to make a run, and Sundin would be very valuable for a playoff run and while Crosby is out, but why would they give up so many roster players? I heard a Pittsburgh deal as Sundin for J.Staal, A.Esposito and a draft pick... as implausible as that sounds, its still more likely than what is above.
Im glad to see that the post has so many comments whether postive or negative they are welcome, for all the naysayers that think im smoking something let me remind everyone the Forsberg on 1 leg fetched what amounted to 4 players on his own from Upshall, Parent, a 1st Rounder and a 3rd Rounder and before any says the two picks might not pan out, it still ended up 4 for 1, Sundin is a far better position health wise then Forsberg was and Top 10 NHL D like Kaberle is worth at least 2 players. I will be glad to repost what actually transpires with Sundin if Fletcher gets what he wants, the willy veteran will not disappoint and will not trade Sundin for the sake of a trade.
i think you might just be the most blasted blogger ever this is unbelievable.the truth all these guys may leave the leafs but you sound like your dad is the gm and thats why you know whos throwing draft picks and 6 player for a rental.listen buddy, trade blogging is usually pretty straight up deals, none of this draft picks and 6 players crap because how the hell are we supposed to know.a little advice stay simple be reasonable and dont base all your knoledge on peter forsberg.
Um, you're not getting Ryan Kesler, Matias Ohlund, Luc Bourdon, Juraj Simek and the Canucks 1st Round pick in 2008 for Sundin/Kaberle. You can't extrapolate from what Nashville (or Atlanta for that matter) did last year and apply to stable franchises in Van, Cal etc. That was a special set of circumstances. A GM that thought the team was likely going to be moved shortly and saw that he had one kick at the can. No Canuck GM is going to give away his core for a rental player.
This is the most pointless blog I've ever read.....I know you are a Leafs fan and sometimes when fans write about there teams they push reality to the side but this was just bad! Chez you are a moron....thats it thats all.
