Sabres 2-1 after 2...

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
Sabres are up 2-1 after 2 periods. The Sabres are playing pretty well, but they aren't capitalizing on some chances that they usually would. Roy's giveaway was terrible and led to the Isles only goal so far. If the Sabres can score on the PP at the start of the 3rd, they should be in good shape. Should be a good 3rd period!
A lot of people around the league are waiting with fainted breath as arbitration hearings begin this week. Among the big names up for arbitration are Sabres forward Derek Roy. Roy, coming off a 63 pt season last year, will assuredly get a nice raise from the 650,000 he made last season. But what are players like him really worth? Personally, I feel Roy is worth so...

Derek Roy has become the most recent player to agree to a contract prior to his arbitration hearing. He and the Buffalo Sabres have agreed to a 6 year 24 million dollar contract as reported by Garth. He is one of many to avoid a scheduled arbitration hearing this summer as 17 of the 30 players who filed for arbitration have already reached agreements with their respective ...
In the 37 year history of the Buffalo Sabres, this city has seen its fair share of dynamic offensive pairs and trios. From the French Connection in the 1970s, to the dynamic tandem of Pat Lafontaine and Alexander Mogilny in the 1990s, we as Sabre fans have been treated to some of the best offensive hockey in years. And now, after the events of yesterday, we may have ano...

The Tale of Two Cities

Growing up with a passion and a love for two teams is harder than just one! My father grew up in Montreal in the era when the Canadiens were known as the flying frenchmen and were basically unbeatable. Derek Roy must of been listening to some old school Smash Mouth over the off season because the 11 points in 4 games he played is insane. His +/- is sitting pretty at +8. As the trade deadline approaches there is a consensus that there are more buyers than sellers. Thus the price of return goes up, the 5th round pick you'd get for say a Yelle goes up to a 3rd round pick, who wouldn't take that deal? I was just thinking to myself about this. Only time will truly tell but just for the heck of it lets debate this. Offseason acquisitions- John Scott, Steve Ott, Adam Pardy, Nick Tarnasky, Departures- Derek Roy, Jochen Hecht, Brad Boyes The players that were brought in without a doubt play a more rugged style of game, but do they add enough skill to boost the sabr...
Those of you who have read my blogs for quite sometime know that I’m not a fan of Darcy Regier, and I haven’t been for quite some time. There’s a lot of talk about his future in Buffalo, especially as the Sabres will once again miss out on the playoffs. 2013 has seen Lindy Ruff leave the Buffalo Sabres organization, and it’s time for Darcy to leave too. Let’s...
We all know the story of the 1991 NHL Draft and Eric Lindros's famous refusal to play for the Quebec Nordiques and the following trade to the Philadelphia Flyers. Lindros excelled in Philly for years and was a beloved player for his kick-your-ass style of play and the amount of points he put up while wearing the Orange and Black. Sadly his career in Philly was cut short by...
GM Doug Armstrong and the Bluenote brass have done what they set out to do. No, they didn't sign the top 4 centers available to solidify the position where we diehards have placed this offseason blame, but they did address an obvious need. In the span of three days we (and yes I say we. At this point so much sorrow shared by such a large group of people can only be descri...
With Matt Duchene now locked up for another five years after this season, I think this could be the beginning of the end for O'reilly in Colorado. People cant forget how distracting the situation was last year with the contract talks, it affected the team in a negative way since they had to answer all those questions. One that I taught, that was affected by it, was Duchene...
I still can't seem to post any comments on MyHockeybuzz without the words "mySQL Error in statement" appearing and my comment not showing up. Just to let you know I'm not ignoring anyone's comments. Liles was mentioned a couple of times in the comments so I'd like to address this point for a bit. Sure, Liles was great with the Avs during his time in Denver. No...
The 2013-14 NHL season has errupted in fighting and banging on the glass fashion. Little did anyone know that it would start off this way....oh I'm sorry I was trying not to laugh at that. When you take a temper prone hall of fame goal tender and put him behind the bench of a team that typically plays an "in your face" type game, and another coach who lost his coaching job...

Avs set franchise record

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
Well, after a week in the its safe to say that Patrick Roy is the right man for this Avalanche team. After 3 games the Avs have set a franchise record in starting 3-0-0 since the move to Denver, Colorado. Something that past great Avs teams have never done. The team is working really hard and it seems that Coach Roy has them bought in to the aggresive game, everyone is lay...
I was watching the press conference that the Avalanche held with Sakic and Roy just last week. The answer to every question was laid out with either Core, structure or both. The structure talking about finance - No one gets paid more than Matt Duchene, although that was clearly never stated it was never denied on behalf of Joe Sakic when asked point blank is this what stru...

Could it happen again?

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
A lot of questions remain for many including Colorado Avalanche fans after the unexpected off-season turned in by Executive Vice President's Joe Sakic and Patrick Roy. Everyone right now are looking at the Avs and wondering and even publicly stating, "After this off-season, will the Avalanche even make the Playoffs?" It is a fair question and with-out any hesitation, a...
I wanted to break down what the Colorado Avalanche so far this season. The Avalanche have had a rough start that many people did not expect, although some expected a slower start, not many expected this slow of a start. Breaking down the subtractions and additions to the roster as of 11/16/2014: Paul Stastny; signed a 4 year deal with the St. Louis Blues. Stastny st...
What has happened to the Colorado Avalanche in this 2014-15 season? You cannot say that the Avalanche have had it easy by any means, considering both the NHL has studied up on the team since their explosion last season that saw them #1 in the Central, #2 in the West and #3 in the entire NHL. A gutsy rookie that came into the league like he had something to prove, after ...
Follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/DailyNHLGrind They were once a couple of 18-year-old goaltenders waiting to get drafted into the National Hockey League. Calvin Pickard, the Seattle Thunderbirds goaltender, was ranked #1 by Central Scouting rankings among North American goalies. Petr Mrazek was a goalie playing in the Czech Extraliga. In fact, he was not...
The duel for back-up in Denver seems to be over, though it is not 100% sure what Colorado will do. Just a few weeks ago, Calvin Pickard was re-assigned to Lake Erie even though he had played out of him mind for the Colorado Avalanche. The young goaltender was sent back due to the fact that Semyon Varlamov was healthy and Reto Berra was their number two. Their other reason ...
Follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/DailyNHLGrind You could sense a little uneasiness from Blackhawks fans before the puck dropped Tuesday night at the United Center. In fact, during the warm up one fan told me, “I hope they don’t fall behind early and play catch up hockey the rest of the way.” Unfortunately for him, that’s exactly what they did. An...
Follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/DailyNHLGrind There are plenty of words that could describe the Avs’ recent five-game road trip. The simplest way to put it is ‘not good enough.’ Colorado went 1-2-2 in the five-game swing away from home with both OT losses coming in the shootout where they had won five straight coming in. “Looking back at t...
