Back-to-back loses hit the Columbus Blue Jackets Friday and Saturday nights. On Friday, the Jackets lose to the Washington Capitals by a final score 2-1. Last night, they lost to the Winnipeg Jets 3-2.
In both games, the Jackets didn't score first, and had to claw back in the game to make it close.
In D.C., summer acquisitions Justin Willams and T.J. Oshie scored for the Capitals. For the Jackets, Matt Calvert scored. Also, Kevin Connuaton played instead of Fedor Tyutin. Both my players to watch, Evgney Kutnezsov (WSH); and Ryan Johansen (CBJ), were pointless. Braden Holtby stopped 29 of 30 for a 0.967 save percentage; Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 26 of 28 for a 0.929 save percentage.
CBJ Three Stars of the Night (@WSH)
1. Sergei Bobrovsky- stopped 26 of 28; 92.9% save percentage
2. Matt Calvert- one goal (1st of season)
3. Kevin Connuaton- one assist
At home for Halloween, a scary start for Columbus occurred- Winnipeg scored three goals in the first period. All three goals were against Sergei Bobrovsky, who stopped 8 of 11 in the first. Andrew Copp, Bryan Little, and Blake Wheeler scored for the Jets. After that, Curtis McElhinney stopped all 16 shots against him. As for Columbus, Brandon Saad and Scott Hartnell scored for the Jackets. Ondrej Pavelec stopped 19 of 21 for a 0.905 save percentage.
Three Stars of the Night (v. WPG)
1. Curtis McElhinney- 16 saves on 16 shots against (100% save percentage)
2. Brandon Saad- one goal (4th goal of season)
3. Scott Hartnell- one goal (4th goal of season)
The Jackets don't play until Tuesday for the start of a California road trip. San Jose is first. Until then, more to come...
