World Cup of Hockey
The semifinals are starting soon for the World Cup, and Group A features Canada against Europe. Group B features Sweden and Russia, which means the only Blue Jacket remaining in the tournament is Sergei Bobrovsky. The players from Team North America and Team USA are expected to be home by the weekend.
The Blue Jackets could not win three straight, but they did finish third place. The Jackets also lost Zach Werenski to injury mid tournament. What does this mean? The Jackets have a decent group of prospects, but not at the top in this tournament to win it all. PLD-Milano-Abramov, the Jackets top line stood out as they were the team's best prospects after Werenski went down.
Here was the official order:
4. New York Rangers
6. St. Louis
Also, prospect Keegan Kolesar was named alternate captain to the Seattle Thunderbirds.
Guys on the Roster
It was reported that Scott Hartnell's trade clause was pulled, so he will be staying in Columbus for the foreseeable future. There were plenty of teams interested in him- Ottawa, Nashville, LA, St. Louis, and New York Islanders; but there was no match.
Alex Wennberg is changing his jersey number from 41 to 10. It may be a PR move or a number he used to wear, but other guys that wore that number in Columbus include Marian Gaborik and Jack Skille.
It seems like candy is being thrown around, but the Jackets have know added Aaron Palushaj to the training camp roster. Palushaj was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens, but has also played with Carolina and Philadelphia.
He adds former Oilers in Jarett Stoll; Marc-Andre Bergeron; and Mike Brown.
Also, prospects Frank Hora and Darby Llewellyn will join the Jackets out of Traverse City in Columbus.
David Clarkson failed his physical due to a back injury, so he will be back on the injured reserve. For him, his career looks to be ending up like Nathan Horton, the guy the Jackets traded to acquire him- with a career ending back injury. This gives a young guy like Josh Anderson or Sonny Milano or Oliver Bjorkstrand a better chance to make the main roster.
What are your thoughts on the Blue Jackets?
