The Pittsburgh Penguins' comeback second period helped them defeat the home Columbus Blue Jackets and a healthy Columbus netminder by a final score of 3-2 in regulation.
The Penguins scored their three goals starting from late in the first period until early in the second. At 14:23, Kris Letang scored a power play goal for his career high 13th goal of the season; Evgeni Malkin and Phil Kessel earned the assists. 45 seconds into the second period, Chris Kuntiz scored his 13th goal of the season; Sidney Crosby and Patric Hornqvist earned the assists. 4 minutes and 2 seconds later, Carl Hagelin scored his 8th of the season; Geno and Kessel had the helpers. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 25 of 27 Penguin shots for a 0.926 save percentage (92.6%).
Columbus' goals came in the first two periods as well. Gregory Campbell scored his 3rd goal off a one timer from Jared Boll; Rene Borque had the other assist. At 2:58 into the second, Cam Atkinson scored his 24th of the season; Soupy and Ryan Murray had the assists. In Sergei's comeback, he stopped 28 of 31 shots for a 0.902 save percentage (90.2%).
For Pittsburgh, they suffered a serious injury which may cost them the playoffs. Evgeni Malkin suffered an upper body injury at the hands of Dalton Prout. It seems to be an arm injury; potentially a broken arm. The result is he is out 6-8 weeks.
