CBJ Post-Game No. 25: Winging It
The Blue Jackets defeated the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena by the final score of 4-1.
Cam Atkinson opened the scoring in the early portion of the first period off a short handed goal. Atkinson's goal was his ninth of the season.
In the second period, sophomore Dylan Larkin got the best of former teammate Zach Werenski on the power play. The tally was Larkin's ninth of the year. Offseason acquisitions Thomas Vanek (via Minnesota) and Frans Nielsen (via New York Islanders) had the assists.
The game winning goal came from Brandon Dubinsky midway through the game. Dubi's goal was his third of the season. Atkinson and David Savard had the assists.
Minutes later, Lukas Sedlak beat Petr Mrazek for his first career NHL goal. Sam Gagner and Markus Nutivarra had the assists.
In the final seconds of the game, Gagner scored an empty net goal for his team leading 11th goal of the season. Sedlak and Seth Jones had the assists.
Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 32 of 33 shots for a 0.970 save percentage (97%). Mrazek stopped 14 of 17 shots faced for a 0.824 save percentage (82.4%). Jimmy Howard replaced Mrazek, and he denied all seven shots encountered.
Game No. 26: On an Island
The New York Islanders were crushed by the Blue Jackets by a final score of 6-2.
Josh Bailey broke the ice for his team in the early portion of the game. The goal was his fifth of the season.
Jack Johnson tied the game for his first of the season. Cam Atkinson and Brandon Dubinsky had the assists.
Atkinson scored midway through the second to give Columbus the lead for his 10th of the season. Johnson and David Savard had the assists.
John Tavares came back to tie the game at two a piece for then islanders. Johnny T's goal was his ninth of the campaign. Andres Lee and Travis Hamonic have the assists.
Josh Anderson got the game winning goal early in the third period. Anderson's unassisted goal was his eighth so far.
Brandon Saad beat Jaroslav Halak for a 4-2 Columbus lead. Saad's goal was his eighth of the season. Oliver Bjorkstrand and Markus Nutivarra had the assists.
Lukas Sedlak scored in back to back games for his second of the season. Seth Jones and Matt Calvert had the assists.
Jones scored the final goal of the game. His goal was his fourth of the season; Scott Hartnell and William Karlsson had the assists.
