Jared Crozier, the Ottawa Senators of Hockeybuzz, started the idea of coming up with ideas of looking at who the Senators could target in the upcoming draft. Now, it's my turn to do so with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
It's already a forgone conclusion that Auston Matthews and Patrik Laine are the top two draft picks. Columbus at the third pick has options on the table, and they have needs to fulfill.
If they take Finnish winger Jesse Puljujarvi with the puck, they are following the predicted the plan after 1 and 2. Puljujarvi is a talented power forward that is probably capable of playing in Tortorella's system with his size and speed.
The other thing is that Puljujarvi has finesse, which is what this team lacks. He was one point away from tying Jagr's record at the Wold Junior Championships in Helsinki, Finland. The sky is the limit for a young kid like him.
If taken by the Jackets, he could be a top 6 forward his rookie season as the Jackets have a solid pool of wingers, but young and elite ones like him.
What are your thoughts on Jesse Puljujarvi and the third overall pick?
More to come…
