The Columbus Blue Jackets held on to defeat the Detroit Red Wings by the final score of 3-2 in overtime.
The Red Wings opened the scoring in the early portion of the first period by defenseman Nick Jensen. The bottom pairing defenseman scored his second goal of the season. Dylan Larkin and Riley Sheahan had the assists.
Brandon Dubinsky evened the game with his seventh goal of the season. Boone Jenner had the lone assist on the goal. Cam Atkinson got his team ahead with his 26th goal of the season. Dubinsky and Jack Johnson had the assists.
The final goal was scored midway in the second period on the power play goal.
The game-tying goal was scored by Thomas Vanek for his 13th goal of the season. Justin Abdelkader and Mike Green had the assists.
Seth Jones scored the overtime game winning goal for his 10th goal of the season. The All-Star defenseman’s shot was an absolute bomb from the left wing side, that beat Petr Mrazek up high on the trapper side. Brandon Dubinsky had the lone assist.
Thomas Vanek was my player to watch, and he evened the game for Detroit with 13 goals on the season.
Scott Hartnell was my player to watch for Columbus, in 10:45 ice time, he had 7 penalty minutes and one shot on goal and two hits.
Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 24 of 26 shots for a 0.923 save percentage (92.3%).
Petr Mrazek stopped 24 of 27 shots for a 0.889 save percentage (88.9%).
