With the Blue Jackets still on the market for a defenseman, Cam Fowler's name has been surfacing around the league as of late.
Fowler was drafted 12th overall in the 2010 NHL Draft. This year, he has 2 points in 11 games. Boston reportedly has interest in Fowler. Buffalo also appears to have interest in him as well as teammate Frederik Andersen.
But would Columbus be interested in him?
He is a young defenseman who has been in multiple playoff appearances with the Ducks and is young like Brandon Saad.
Plus, what would it take to get him?
Maybe a package like the Jackets made for Saad- Secondary scoring, a prospect, and a pick. Maybe.
Also, Matt Carle's name keeps coming out in trade rumors.
Tampa is trying to move out salary in order to resign Steven Stamkos. Carle has been struggling for the past bit, and Bolts GM Steve Yzerman is trying to see what he could get for one of his veteran defenseman. Carle was a 2nd round pick of San Jose in the 2003 Draft. Carle has also played with the Philadelphia Flyers, and was part of their 2010 Stanley Cup run.
The question remains would the Jackets pursue him and what would the cost be.
For a veteran defenseman with a left-handed shot, my feel is that the Jackets won't go after him as they already have multiple left-handed d-men in Jack Johnson and Fedor Tyutin. However, if the Jackets go after him, the cost may be a draft pick and a defensive prospect
More to come...
