Last night, the Islanders struck early, late, and in extra time to defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets by a final score of 3-2 in a shootout.
The Islanders got a goal from Ryan Strome (my player to watch) 56 seconds into the game. Three minutes into the final frame, Andres Lee ties the score on a power play goal. Other players with points were John Tavares, Kyle Okposo, and Frans Nielsen. Jaroslav Halak made 26 saves on 28 shots against. In the shootout, the Isles got goals from Brock Nelson and Cal Clutterbuck.
Columbus got both their goals in the first period. Cam Atkinson got the team's first goal 7:45 into the game. Less than four minutes later (11:26), Brandon Dubinsky scored to give the Jackets the lead. Other players with points were nobody; Dubinsky and Cam Atkinson each had a goal and an assist. In the shootout, Alex Wennberg got a goal to extend the shootout to the fourth round. Kerby Rychel, my player to watch, was held off the scoreboard. Joonas Korpisalo had 40 saves on 42 shots against.
