Last night, the Columbus Blue Jackets managed a comeback victory over the Might Ducks of Anaheim by a final score of 4-3 in a shootout. This win pushes the Jackets further up the standings, putting them at 26th overall, and one point behind 25th (Winnipeg). This win for Columbus got Anaheim a point, which helps them creep closer and closer to second place in the Pacific Division- the San Jose Sharks.
The Ducks got their goals early last night. David Perron, a player that current GM Jarmo Kekalainen brought into St. Louis, scored less than five minutes into the frame off a beautiful tic-tac-toe play that Seth Jones and Ryan Murray could not stop. In the second period, journeyman Mike Santorelli scored 52 seconds into the second period. Early in the final frame, former Blackhawk and Dallas Star enforcer, Ryan Grabutt, made it 3-1. In the shootout, no player on Anaheim's roster could beat Korpi. Other players with points were Chris Stewart, Ryan Getzlaf (2), Hampus Lindholm, Josh Manson, and Jakob Silfverberg. Frederick Andersen made 29 saves on 32 shots against through 65 minutes of play, and was beaten badly in the shootout.
Columbus came back strong against the Ducks, but their comeback did not start until seven second after Santorelli's goal. The former Duck, William "Wild Bill" Karlsoon, made it 2-1 with 59 seconds into the second period. In the third period, the Jackets got two goals in eight minutes and 54 seconds. Brandon Saad made it 3-2 early in the third, and Brandon Dubinsky tied it off a power play tally late in the final frame. In the shootout, Cam Atkinson and Alex Wennberg beat Andersen. Other players with points last night were Nick Foligno (2), Cody Goloubef, Wennberg, and Seth Jones. Joonas Korpisalo made 26 saves on 29 shots against, and was perfect in the shootout.
