What an entertaining night in Columbus, where two of the youngest teams in the league battled back and forth for two points. Last night, in the final matchup of the season between Columbus and Edmonton, the Blue Jackets defeated the Oilers by a final score of 6-3.
Edmonton scored their three goals in the final two frames of the game. Less than five minutes into the second period (4:35), Leon Drasatil (my player to watch) scored his 17th goal of the season. Adam Pardy, who they picked up of waivers from Winnipeg, got the primary assist; Patrick Maroon, who they acquired from Anaheim for Martin Gerant, got the secondary assist. With one minute left in the second period, Taylor Hall scored his 22nd of the season. Andrej Sekera and Connor McDavid had the assists. Speaking of McDavid, he scored the Oilers' lone goal in the final frame. It was his 13th goal of the season. Patrick Maroon and Andrej Sekera earned the helpers. Laurent Brossoit stopped 21 of 27 Blue Jackets shots for a 0.778 save percentage (77.8%).
For Columbus, the Jackets socred two goals in less than three minutes into the game. At 1:54, Cam Atkinson scored his 21st of the season, which ties him for his career high. Brandon Dubinsky and Boone Jenner had the helpers. At 2:44, David Savard scored his 2nd of the season. Brandon Saad (my player to watch) and Matt Calvert had the assists. Ten seconds after Leon Drasatil scored his second period goal, defenseman Fedor Tyutin scored his first of the season. Scott Hartnell and Nick Foligno earned the helpers. At 10:54 into the middle period, Bonne Jenner scored his 23rd of the season. Ryan Murray and Seth Jones had the assists. After Taylor Hall scored in the final minute, (43 seconds later) Scott Hartnell responded with 21st goal of the season, and 299th of his career. Alex Wennberg had the only helper. In the final period, 25 seconds after Connor McDavid's goal, Savard scored his second of the game and 3rd of the season. William Karlsson and David Clarkson earned the assists. Joonas Korpisalo made 33 saves on 36 shots against for a 0.917 save percentage (91.7%).
