CBJ- Zach Werenski Signs With Columbus
The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed their top prospect, defenseman Zach Werenski to a three year entry level deal. Also, the Lake Erie Monsters, the Jackets affiliate team, signed him to an amateur tryout offer.
Werenski was drafted eighth overall by the Blue Jackets in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. The past two seasons, Werenski enjoyed two seasons at the University of Michigan. In 36 games with the Wolverines, he scored 11 goals and had 25 assists, averaging a point per game (11-22-36). During his tenure in Michigan, he has 61 points in 71 games (20-41-61). In seven games as Team USA's captain at the World Junior Championships, he had 9 points (2-7-9). In 12 international games, he has 11 points (3-8-11).
His signing bolsters the strength of the Jackets defensive corp in the short term and the long term. He is a talented kid and could benefit playing these final games against veteran players in the AHL. In the long term, he is sure to be a top 4 defenseman, maybe a number 1 or number 2.

CBJ- Sonny Milano Recalled
The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled winger Sonny Milano from the American Hockey League on an emergency basis, and will make his NHL debut on Thursday.
Milano was drafted 16th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He played with in the USHL and USDP, when he was drafted and spent a year with the Plymouth Whalers prior to spending the current season with the Lake Erie Monsters. With the development program, he logged 133 points in 114 games (49-84-133); with the USHL, he registered 61 points in 63 games (24-37-61); 68 points in 50 games in the OHL (22-46-68); 12 points in 12 international games (3-9-12); and 27 points in 48 AHL games (12-15-27).
Milano's recall will help the Jackets see what he could project to become in the NHL. He has not been as successful as projected to be this season in the AHL, but this is probably due to a transition from going to play against boys to men. He is apparently playing on a line with Brandon Saad and Alex Wennberg.
