CBJ- Soupy Situation

The situation between veteran center Gregory Campbell and the Columbus Blue Jackets has gone very sour, and the league had remained very quiet about it.

Gregory Campbell, an NHL veteran, has had a bottom six role with the Florida Panthers and the Boston Bruins, including winning a Stanley Cup, prior to joining Columbus.

This year, Campbell did not make the Blue Jackets, and was placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the American Hockey League.

For Campbell, going to Cleveland at a veteran age with tons of NHL experience would help the young players learn how to win at the NHL level, through the ways of a minor team that won the Calder Cup last season.

However, Campbell and his agent feel it's best that he not reports to the Cleveland Monsters, and he has been suspended by the club. With his suspension, there is question of whether or not he gets paid by Columbus or whether or not he gets traded.

Hopefully, a trade is resolved so he gets more time back on the ice, and the team finds the right team and right price. Campbell is getting paid $1.3 million this year but has a $1.5 million cap hit. Some teams that lack down the middle, especially in the bottom six, include the Los Angeles Kings; Chicago Blackhawks; Nashville Predators; and Washington Captials. What do all four of these teams have alike? They are all cup contenders, and they may be where they get the best deal from a team and for the player.
