The Columbus Blue Jackets were defeated by the Los Angeles Kings by the final score of 3-2 in overtime.
The comeback Kings got their goal from in the second period new captain Anze Kopitar; his second goal of the season was assisted by veteran defenseman Tom Gilbert and young winger Tyler Toffoli. The game tying goal was scored by reigning Norris Trophy winner Drew Doughty; his second goal of the season was had assists from center Nic Shore and former captain Dustin Brown. The game winning goal came from defenseman Alec Martinez. His second has helpers from leading point scorer Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli. Peter Budaj was their starting goaltender. The former Hershey Bear; Colorado Avalanche; Montreal Canadien; and Winnipeg Jet goalie has been in the Kings organization since last season, but was utilized tonight after the freaky goalie injury show in Los Angeles. He stopped 19 of 21 shots for a 0.905 save percentage (90.5%).
Both Columbus goals came in the second period. The first one came 90 seconds in from winger Brandon Saad. His surprisingly first goal of the season comes from captain Nick Foligno and defenseman David Savard. The second goal came from Cam Atkinson for his second of the season goal, on the power play; Sam Gagner and Alex Wennberg had the assists. Sergei Bobrovsky continues his supremacy as the undisputed number one goalie, but he only had a 0.900 save percentage tonight, after allowing 3 goals on 30 shots.
