Je suis désolé Montréal, mais zut! 10 à 0. Finale.
The Montreal Canadiens, the league's best team was utterly dominated and destroyed and blanked by the Columbus Blue Jackets by the final score of 10-0.
Let's get through the goals in order since there is only one team to talk about on the score sheet.
The first goal of the game was one of four scored on the power play and one of two scored from winger Cam Atkinson. Camsanity scored his 3rd goal of the year at 10:56 into the period on a sneaky play to get behind the four Canadiens players on a nice cycle. Two of the Jackets hottest players on the roster had the assists in captain Nick Foligno and Swedish center Alex Wennberg.
Less than a minute later, the Jackets' second goal of the game comes from defenseman Seth Jones. This is his third goal of the season and his second in two games. Just like against Antti Niemi on Tuesday, Jones beats Montoya on the trapper side of the ice. The lone assist comes from winger Josh Anderson.
In the final five minutes of the first period, defenseman Markus Nutivarra dumped the puck into the Habs end on the left side. The puck wrapped around to the right side, and defenseman David Savard attempted to pass the puck to Matt Calvert on the slot, but it tipped off Jeff Petry's stick and behind Al Montoya. This is David Savard's first goal of the season with Markus Nutivarra having the lone assist.
In the second period, the Blue Jackets get back on the power play and the goal is set up by the goal scorer. Cam Atkinson passes the puck to the Zach Werenski on the blue line, passes it over to Alex Wennberg, who shoots it on net, but it's deflected off Sam Gagner's stick and hits the crossbar, and it comes back over to Atkinson, who rebounds it off his backhand and being Montoya. Atkinson's goal was his second of the game and the fourth of the season; Sam Gagner and Alex Wennberg had the assists.
Ath the end of the first half of the Brenden Gallagher double minor for high sticking, the Jackets get another power play goal. Cam Atkinson gets the puck to Zach Werenski, who passes it to Alex Wennberg, who passes it to Nick Foligno, who passes it to Atkinson, who misses it and rebounds off the boards back to Werenski, who passes it behind all the Habs defenders to Foligno and beats Al Montoya clean for a 5-0 lead. The captain's power play goal is his 3rd of the season; Werenski and Wennberg had the assists.
In the second half of the power play, Scott Hartnell passed the puck to Seth Jones, who passed it to Brandon Dubinsky, who passed it to Boone Jenner in front of Al Montoya. Jenner shot it, and Hartnell crept in for the rebound for a 6-0 lead. The goal is Hartnell's 3rd of the season; Jenner and Dubinsky had the assists.
In the midst of the second period, Alex Wennberg is in a one on two battle along the boards, when Brandon Saad comes in a pit pockets the defenders, and passes it to the captain who buries his second of the night. The goal was his 4th of the season; Brandon Saad and Alex Wennberg had the assists.
In The final minute and a half of the second period, Josh Anderson breaks into the zone, and whifs a backhand air shot over Montoya's head while looking a Gallagher for a 8-0 lead. The goal was Anderson's third of the season; William Karlsson and Jack Johnson had the assists.
In the third period, Werenski passed the puck to Seth Jones who shot it towards the net, but it was deflected by Scott Hartnell and got past Montoya for a 9-0 lead. The goal was as Hartnell's second of the game and fourth of the season; Jones and Werenski had the assists.
Later in the period, Anderson breaks into the Habs zone with the puck, passes it to Matt Calvert, who passes it back to him and buries it on an open net for a 10-0 lead. Anderson's second of the night was his fourth of the season; Calvert and William Karlsson had the assists.
Al Montoya and the whole Canadiens team played awful, but Montoya stopped 30 of 40 shots for a 0.750 save percentage. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped all 30 shots for his 15th career shutout (100%).
Every Blue Jackets player had a point except Ryan Murray and Lukas Sedlak. Wonder how mad Torts is at that haha.
For this loss being Montreal's first, this is probably not who they were expecting to loose tonight. It could've been 11-0, but one of the goals was waived off because of a distinct kicking motion.
