The Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Anaheim Ducks by the final score of 3-2 in overtime.
Just over a minute into the game, Ducks forward Andrew Cogliano attempts to clear the puck up the boards, but Boone Jenner keeps it in play, and passes the puck to a wide open Scott Hartnell, whose in front of John Gibson, who somehow saves the puck, and Boone Jenner slips it in with a slick backhand shot as he gets to the goal for his first of the season. Cam Atkinson also got a supplementary assist on the tally.
Minutes later, Brandon Saad emerged out of a one on two battle with Ducks defenders Hampus Lindholm and Clayton Stoner. Saad passed the puck between them and two other Ducks forwards to Jack Johnson, who then passed it to Ryan Murray, who passed it back to a wide open Saad in the high slot, who scored on the open net for a 2-0 lead in the first period.
In five period played (the overtime in the Stars game, the whole Habs game, and the first period v Anaheim) the Jackets have out scored the opposition 13-0. 13 unanswered goals in Nationwide to that
point in time.
In the later part of the second period, Rickard Rakell passed the puck around the boards to Cam Fowler who shot it on net. Rakell deflected it in between Bobrovsky's blocker and pads for a 2-1 Columbus lead. Josh Manson also had an assist on the goal.
In the third period, Joesph Cramarossa got the puck from Sergei Bobrovsky behind the net; and passed it out to Nick Ritchie, who got it passed Bobrovsky to tie the game at 2-2.
In overtime, Alex Wennberg (my player to watch) broke the puck out of the defensive zone into the offensive zone, dropped passed it to Zach Werenski, and beat John Gibson for the game winning goal.
Gibson was the starter, and he stopped 15 of 18 shots for a 0.833 save percentage (83.3%). Bobrovsky was the starter, and he stopped 30 of 32 shots for a 0.938 save percentage (93.8%).
Wennberg (my player to watch) had an assist, was a plus +2, and played 19:58 in ice time with Brandon Dubinsky out of the lineup. Ryan Getzlaf was my player to watch in Anaheim and had 21:52 in ice time and is a -1.
