The Boston Bruins wowed the Columbus Blue Jackets in a dominant first period effort, winning by a final score of 5-2.
Capitalizing off a Zdeno Chara turnover, Alex Wennberg got the puck to captain Nick Foligno, who potted his fifth goal of the season by beating Tukka Rask on the blocker side for a 1-0 lead. Wennberg's assist was 13th of the year and 9th in his past six games.
Midway in the first, Torey Krug was able to get the puck at the Blue Jackets blue line, and passed it back to David Krejci, who passed it back to my player to watch, and going across the blue line, shots the puck toward a screened Sergei Bobrovsky. The puck hits of Scott Hartnell's buttocks, and in on the blocker side of Bobs for a 1-1 score for Krug's first goal of the season. David Backes had the supplemental assist.
Less than a minute later, Columbus rookie defenseman Markus Nutivarra turns the puck over to Bruins forward Austin Czarnik, who passes the biscuit to Matt Beleskey, who beats Bobrovsky trapper side for his first of the season for a 2-1 lead.
Later in the second, Zdeno Chara was able to break the puck out of the Bruins end to Matt Beleskey, who put it on a rushing Riley Nash's stick, who found an open Austin Czarnik on a two on one with Markus Nutivarra for a 3-1 Bruins lead.
Seconds later, Zach Werenski turns the puck over to Dominic Moore, who gives it to Tim Schaller, who beats Bobrovsky upstairs. It came out so the fast, the play continued, but the play eventually stopped, and was ruled a goal, for a 4-1 Bruins lead.
The four Bruins goals were scored in four minutes and one second, which led to the change in goalies from Sergei Bobrovsky to Curtis McElhinney.
In the second period, Ryan Spooner gets the puck off Sam Gagner, who gets it to David Krejci, who passes it to David Backes in the slot for his third of the season. It's a 5-1 Boston lead.
In the third period, Sam Gagner lost the face, but Bruins defenseman Colin Miller slipped the puck past Tukka Rask for a 5-2 Boston lead.
Tukka Rask was the starting goalie for the Bruins, stopping 15 of 17 shots for a 0.882 save percentage (88.2%). Sergei Bobrovsky was the starter for Columbus, stopping 5 of 9 shots for his worst night of the season with a 0.556 save percentage (55.6%). Curtis McElhinney stopped 22 of 23 shots for a 0.957 save percentage (95.7%).
