The battle in the Metropolitan Division continues for the Jackets where they take on the high scoring New York Rangers tonight. The Rangers have been an absolutely dominate team all season long, dominating puck possession, which means more plays and more goals (+34).
The Rangers made the playoffs last year as an older club, but cap issues made them change to be younger. Dan Boyle and Matt Linblad retired from the league. They traded Keith Yandle to the Florida Panthers; and Derrick Brassard to the Ottawa Senators. Other veterans were let go to the open market, including Eric Staal (MIN), Dan Paille (SHL), Viktor Stalberg (CAR), and Dominic Moore (BOS). They acquired Nick Holden in a trade from Colorado; and Mika Zibanejad from Ottawa. The Blue Shirts added Jimmy Vessey; Michael Grabner; Brandon Pirri; Adam Clendening; Josh Jorris; and Michael Paliotta.
The Rangers are without Chris Kreider and Pavel Buchnevich with lower body injuries. Josh Jorris still remains on the IR with an upper body injury. The Jackets are without Seth Jones and David Clarkson with long term injuries, and Dalton Prout sustained an à back injury before the last game against Washington.
