The Jackets maintain their composure to defeat the Capitals in the final minute of regulation, by the final score of 3-2.
In the first period, a Jack Johnson turnover to Nick Backstrom slips in between Sergei Bobrovsky's legs for a 1-0 Washington lead. The ice breaker was his fifth goal of the season.
In the second period, the Jackets even the score with a Nick Foligno power play goal. The tying goal came off set up passing system where Alex Wennberg attempted to pass the puck to Foligno, and the captain was attempting to pass it to Cam
Atkinson, but it was deflected off John Carlson's skate and behind Braden Holtby. Foligno's goal was his seventh goal of the season; Wennberg and Zach Werenski had the assists.
Later on, a Washington power play brings a 2-1 Caps lead off an Alex Ovechkin one timer from Nick Backstrom. Ovi's goal is his ninth of the season, and Matt Niskanen had a secondary assist on the goal.
Right of the opening draw of the third period, Brandon Dubinsky backs in a great back hand shot to tie the game at 2-2, off a soccer pass from Cam Atkinson. Dubinsky's second goal of the year also had an assist from Brandon Saad.
A tic tac toe play between Sam Gagner, Nick Foligno, and Alex Wennberg results in the game winning power play goal in the final minute of the third period. The Alex Wennberg goal is his third of the season, for the 3-2 regulation final.
