The second game of back to back nights for Columbus brings them back home to take on the different looking Colorado Avalanche.
Going with the different look, the Avs made a lot of changes to the roster in the summer. Their former head coach, Patrick Roy, resigned from the team. They lost five players to European teams, including enforcer Patrick Bordeleau; former first rounder Joey Hishon; and young winger Denis Everberg. They traded Reto Berra to Florida and Nick Holden to the Rangers. They let other guys, and plenty of them, walk to different teams, from the top six forward group, to secondary scoring, to AHL guys. Some guys include former Blue Jackets Andrew Bodnarchuk (DAL) and Jack Skille (VAN); ex Coyotes Mikkel Boedker (SJ) and Brandon Gormley (NJ); veteran defensemen in Nate Guenin (ANA) and Zach Redmond (MTL); and young guns in Borna Rendulic (VAN) and Taylor Beck (NSH). They hired former Cleveland Monsters head coach Jared Bednar. They acquired Rocco Grimaldi from Florida. They added ex Blue Jackets in Fedor Tyutin, Trent Vogelhuber, and Rene Bourque. The Avalanche also added Gabriel Bourque; Patrick Wericoch; Ryan Stanton; and Joe Colborne.
The Avalanche are still a struggling team this year, just like the past couple years, but they get Matt Duchene back in the lineup tonight. They also have Seymon Varlamov in between the net tonight. However, they are also without their captain in Gabriel Landeskog with an injury.
Columbus is back with Seth Jones in the lineup, after breaking his foot. He missed only six games with a broken foot. Only six. And Columbus was 5-1-0 without him. It's crazy this team is doing this good. With Jones back, Scott Harrington is back in the press box.
