The winning streak at home has come to an end by way of an overtime defeat to the Colorado Avalanche. The final score was Colorado 3, Columbus 2.
Nine minutes into the first period, the Jackets get a mini series of lucky bounces for a 1-0 lead. Cam Atkinson shot the puck from the side of the net; hitting off Nikita Zadarov's stick; and off Mikko Rantanen's skate to get past Seymon Varlamov for Camsanity's ninth goal of the season. Brandon Dubinsky and Brandon Saad had the assists.
Into the second period, a slap shot from the blue line by Tyson Barrie beats Curtis McElhinney to tie the game at 1-1. The goal was Barrie's second of the campaign. Mikko Rantanen and Carl Soderberg had the assists.
A wrist shot from Eric Johnson beats Curtis McElhinney on the blocker side for a 2-1 Colorado lead. That was Johnson's first goal of the year. Nate MacKinnon and Fedor Tyutin had the assists.
A Cam Atkinson wrist shot beats Varly with 6.9 seconds remaining in regulation. That was Atkinson's second of the game and seventh of the season. Sam Gagner and Zach Werenski had the assists.
In overtime, a Werenski turnover leads to an odd man rush, resulting in Matt Duchene beating McElhinney and winning the game for his team in his return. Duchene's goal was his seventh of the season; Eric Johnson had the lone assist.
