CBJ Update + G4 with Cats

October 11 2018---- Sorry for being super busy over the weekend. Other committmnets came in the way from producing any furhter articles over the weekend.
Firstly, I will catch everyone up with the game action, injury news, and then look at the competition this evening, with the return of two former Blue Jackets players.

The Blue Jackets opened the season on the road against the Detroit Red Wings, with an overtime victory. The final score was 3-2.
Cam Atkinson opened the scoring in the first period, off the power play. Pierre-Luc Dubois and Artemi Panarin had the assists.
Detroit evened the scoring, with help from rookie defenseman Dennis Cholowski. Dylan Larkin and Gustav Nyqvist had the assists.
Josh Anderson rallied the Jackets back to leading the game, with his first of the season; Brandon Dubinsky and Anthony Duclair had the assists.
Tyler Bertuzzi evened the game for the Red Wings on the power play; Larkin and Nyqvist assisted yet again.
In the overtime, Panarin sniped a roofer of a shot over Jimmy Howard for the game winner. Captain Nick Foligno and Markus Nutivarra had the helpers.

For Detroit, my reaction to them playing was they played hard with young players being groomed by the veterans. The young guys in Cholowski and Bertuzzi and Larkin are continuing to
contribute, with veteran goaltending keeping them afloat in Jimmy Howard and Jonathan Bernier. My player for the Wings to watch was rookie Michael Rasmussen, who was drafted 9th overall in
the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Rasmussen was held off the board in terms of production. Riley Nash was my player to watch for Columbus, and he too was held off
the board. Jimmy Howard stopped 36 of 39 shots for a 0.923 save percentage; Joonas Korpisalo stopped 18 of 20 shots for a 0.900 save percentage.

In game two, the Columbus Blue Jackets were defeated by the Carolina Hurricanes by the final score of 3-1. New acquasition Jordan Martinook opened the scoring for Carolina. The former Coyote
got a helper from second overall pick Andrei Svechnikov.
Brandon Dubinsky scored the lone goal for the Union Blue. His first of the season got a helper from David Savard.
Winger Sebastian Aho got his first of the season for the game winning goal. Teuvo Teravianen and winger Michael Ferland had the asssits.
Ferland got his first goal as a Carolina Hurricane, after spending the previous 4 seasons with the Calgary Flames. Aho had the lone assist.
The win for the Hurricanes was the first victory for new head coach Rob Brind'Amour.
The starter for Carolina was former Jackets backup, Curtis McElhinney. McElhinney stopped 30 of 32 shots for a 0.969 save percentage.
Sergei Bobrovsky was the starting goalie for Columbus, stopping 32 of 35 shots for a 0.914 save percentage.

In game 3, the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Colorado Avalanche by the final score of 5-2. Nick Foligno scored the first goal of the game, for his first of the season. Alex Wennberg and
Anthony Duclair had the assists. Pierre-Luc Dubois scored his first goal of the season on the powerplay. Cam Atkinson and Foligno had the assists.
Colorado scored both of their goals in the second period. Nathan MacKinnon scored his third of the season; Mikko Rantanen and Erik Johnson had the assists. Carl Soderberg scored his second of
the season; Samuel Girard and Alex Kerfoot had the assists.
Artemi Panarin scored his second of the season; Markus Nutivarra and Ryan Murray had the assists. Foligno scored his second of the game; Wennberg had his second assist of the game. Josh Anderson
scored his second of the season.
Phillip Grubauer was the starter for the Avalanche, after being acquired in the offseason from the defending Stanley Cup Champion Capitals. Grubauer stopped 30 of 34 shots for a 0.882 save percentage.
Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 25 of 27 shots for a 0.926 save percentage.

Brandon Dubinsky is out injured with an oblique strain; Scott Harrington was activated off the IR; and Gabriel Carlsson was assigned the the Cleveland Monsters.

Tonight, in game number 4, the Jackets begin their Florida trip in Sunrise against the Florida Panthers. Last Season, the Panthers were just short of qualifying for the postseason, pushing the Devils and Blue Jackets to do better by season's end.
The Panthers added more firepower to their roster, with the additions of forwards Mike Hoffman and Troy Brouwer on offense; and depth between the pipes with goalie Michael Hutchinson. The Cats did lose winger Radim Vrbata to retirement; and goalie Harri Sateri to the Detroit Red Wings.
The Panthers are a young and building team looking to the future, but will do so presently with goalie Roberto Luongo, who has been sidelined for the next two to four weeks with a groin injury.

For Columbus, they will march on without Dubinsky and Jones, both of whom are still injured, calling for Lukas Sedlak to draw into the lineup.
