CBJ Post-Game No 4: So Close, Yet So Far

The Columbus Blue Jackets held on to defeat the Florida Panthers by the final score of 5-4, in regulation.

Zach Werenski opened the scoring on the power play with his first of the season. Artemi Panarin and Cam Atkinson had the assists. Panarin added onto the lead with his third of the season; Pierre-Luc Dubois had the assists.

Evgenii Dadonov scored his first of the season in the final seconds of the first; Alex Barkov. Barkov evened the score in the second period with his first of the season; Dadonov had the assists. Troy Brouwer got the go-ahead goal for the
Cats, which was his first goal as a Panther. Mark Pysyk had the only assist.

Anthony Duclair evened the game up for the Jackets on the power play; and it was his first goal as a Columbus Blue Jacket. Panarin and Werenski had the assists.

Nick Bjugstad got Florida ahead by one yet again, with his first of the season. Dadonov and Keith Yandle had the assists.

Boone Jenner evened the game with his first of the season; Scott Harrington and Riley Nash got the helpers. This was Nash's first point as a Blue Jacket. Atkinson rallied the troops with the game winner, in the dying minutes of the game. This was Atkinson's second goal of the season. Markus Nutivarra and Panarin had the assists.

This matchup was a highly contested one for both teams. The Panthers played their first game of the season without their starting goalie, and put up an offensive battle with the Blue Jackets. The stars of Florida came out to play,
showing they want to stick around this season, make some noise, and battle for a postseason opportunity. For the Union Blue, they responded to the noise of the Cats, with the top line combining for 7 points on the night. Their top
two defensemen played around 24 minutes last night in the absence of Seth Jones. Even though Ryan Murray didn't produce, his steady defense was able to hold the Panthers back. As for Werenski, he is showing that he could be a Norris winning defenseman one day in the future, potentially competing with line mate Jones.

James Reimer was in between the pipes for the Panthers, stopping 27 of 32 shots faced for a 0.844 save percentage. Joonas Korpisalo played for Columbus, showing the goaltending tandem as one of the strongest in the league. Korpi
stopped 37 of 41 shots for a 0.902 save percentage.
