AH! WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??? Is it the end? Call for a shakeup! Deal the rentals! No no, stay calm. It's just one game against one of the top teams. First, let's go over the results, then analyze.
Starting in the first, the past came back to repeat the Jackets, with a slow start.
Victor Hedman scored a minute into the game, good for his first goal of the season. Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov had the assists. Cedric Paquette netted his first of the season. Yanni Gourde had the lone assist. Minutes later, Gourde scored his first of the season off the powerplay; Mikhael Sergachev and Johnson had the assists.
The second period was the only frame where the Jackets netted goals. Josh Anderson scored his third of the season; Alex Wennberg and Ryan Murray had the assists. Oliver Bjorkstrand snipped his first goal of the season with no help from his team.
Tampa netted a late goal in the dying seconds of the second period. Brayden Point scored his second of the year; unassisted.
The Bolts scored four goals in the third period. Point scored his second of the game off the power play, which was his third of the season. JT Miller and Sergachev had the assists. Alex Killorn scored his first goal of the season, also on the power play. Steven Stamkos and Miller had the assists. Kucherov scored his first of the season; Ondrej Palat and Braydon Coburn had the assists. Miller scored his first of the season on the power play; Point and Anton Stralman had the assists.
Andrei Vasilevsiky stopped 30 of 32 shots; Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 23 of 31 shots faced.
Analyzing the game, the Jackets were not there as a team tonight. They had Tampa Bay on the power play seven times in the game, and Tampa capitalized on 4 of the 7 attempts. Tampa had the sleeping offensive giants wake up against Columbus. Pierre-Luc Dubois had 6 penalty minutes against the Bolts. Cam Atkinson; Artemi Panarin; and Zach Werenski had minors too. The top guys
on the Jackets were just lousy against the Panthers, even though they all performed wonderfully against the Cats.
