CBJ Post-Game Numero Trois- First of Many
It may have taken some time and patience, but after three games on the road, the Columbus Blue Jackets win their first game of the season, by the final score of 3-2 in regulation against the Detroit Red Wings. Happy 20 years, Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Day, and happy hockey Columbus. In their first televised game on the big NBCSN, the Columbus Blue Jackets pulled it off.
Ironically, it took them to play from behind to win, but Columbus began to find themselves on the ice and showed it is not time to panic yet fans. The drama, the rumors, the speculation. They showed what they’re made of for all to see today.
Detroit opened the scoring with their only scorer for them this afternoon, with Bobby Ryan beating Korpisalo for his second and third goals of the season.
Columbus scored three consecutive goals to keep Detroit down and out for the game.
Oliver Bjorkstrand scored his first of the season. The cycling down in the offensive zone led to the Columbus defense shooting the puck on net, which was blocked by a Detroit defender, and then rebounded by Bjorky over the glove side of goalie Thomas Greiss and lighting the lamp. The assists with the cycling and shot came from Boone Jenner and Michael Del Zotto.
Speaking of Bjorkstrand, he led the puck into the offensive zone, giving the puck to Alexandre Texier, who wrapped the puck around the net of Greiss, and it went off the skate of Patrick Nemeth and behind Greiss for the 2-1 Columbus lead. Texier’s goal was his second of the year.
The top line came in clutch again off a breakout play. 76 seconds after Tex’s goal, Columbus broke the puck out of their zone and PLD zoomed into the zone and buried the puck over Greiss’ blocker for Dubois’ first of the Campaign for the 3-1 lead.
The final goal of the game by Bobby Ryan did call for some controversy and fists flying. Zach Werenski pushed Ryan into Korpi, and it led to the puck slipping past him. Ryan then fought Bjorkstrand, while Werenski scrapped with Larkin.
