Staal brothers arrested after party
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/new...ID=214589&hubname=nhl

I was all set to write an article about how hockey should take advantage of the other sports PR nightmares but now it looks like hockey has a blemish of its own.

I will admit that it does not sound like the Staals offenses are anywhere near what we have learned that other sports have done in the last few days; NBA ref cheating, NFL Player in gambling and animal cruelty, doping for Tour de France, etc. Hockey has its share of misfortunes.

With a few exceptions hockey is one of the better sports. It's athletes are first class. I wish that it could be shown just how first class these guys are in this day and age when you see how terrible some players are as role models.

I guess it will just have to wait another day.

In the grand scheme of all that is going on in sports at the moment (gambling, dogfighting, strippers, drugs and so forth), getting a little rowdy at a bachelor party is amongst the lesser of the offenses. It's bad, yes, especially since Jordan is only 18 (though there isn't any evidence thus far of him drinking), but also, in all honesty, this wouldn't even be news if it weren't for two sports figures being involved. They should know better...But it happens. I'd still take the Staal's over Michael Vick or Barry Bonds any day of the week.

I completely agree with you on that one.

In Canada, Jordan is of legal drinking age, so that isn't even a real issue. To me, this is more boy being boys than the NFL or NBA problems. Now, had they stopped the Staals with a box truck full of HGH or Horse steroids, yeah different story.

This will pass very quickly. While the letter of the law wasn't followed, we have to be realistic here. Underage drinking is an everyday thing in the U.S. and police frequently turn blind eyes to it. In fact, on some college campuses, the drinking age is 18 or 19 and the police never ask questions. He was served it by his brother (it was his brother's party) at what we can reason was a private party. We also know that the Staals originally complied with the order to be quiet, then were kicked out of the hotel from their beds. I guess being left stranded for a night, they had to do something to kill time. If any charges from this come about, they will be lessened because THEY stopped partying when asked, and were still kicked out.

When will the scourge of underage drinking stop poisoning our youth? Is there a greater problem than underage drinking, aside perhaps from Kleenex's that rip apart, I think not.
