Vinny to Flames Rumor

Posted 6:21 PM ET | Comments 15
So the rumor de jour for Flames fans is that Vincent Lecavalier could land in Stampede city. Tim Panaccio Brought this up recently and is the source of this rumor.

Why it makes sense: Burke identified a number 1 center as part of the off season targets, Lecavalier is now removed from being considered a #1 but as far as Flames skill level there are worse guys out there to teach Monahan and the rest how to be NHL players.

There is the fact the Flames have money to burn to reach the floor and the Flyers are in cap jail. Lecavalier is a cap hit of 4.5 million for four more years, this is easily affordable for the Flames and works with their rebuild model. As younger players surpass him, he would be demoted accordingly.

The questions that remain is what this looks like, can the Flames take Pronger off them too and get a first and a+ prospect out of the deal? What would go the other way? I could not begin to speculate but it would have to be a roster player that was not expensive, in my mind that leaves Glencross as a potential.

What would a deal of Lecavalier, a first round pick (maybe even next years), and a Laughton type prospect for Glencross and say a second round make you think?

Capgeek has “Vinny” with a NMC which I thought was waived when he waived to be traded however if that is the case, I couldn’t imagine why he’d want to be part of a rebuild in Calgary.

I hate speculation for that reason. They want to unload lecavalier due to cap restrictions. What would you suggest?

How about Lecavalier and Schenn for Glencross and Backlund. I would keep Backlund but in the spirit of proposing realistic I think this is a fair deal... maybe philly throws in a 3rd round pick. Fixes Phillys salary problem and we get a young guy with potential and a veteran presence that we need also.

Regardless of what some are posting this is a decent post and with Philly looking to dump salary there is a chance lecavalier ends up a Flame for a reasonable price... but I dont think we would be able to get a first round pick as part of the package.

Try this again. At best CGY would have to give up a 2nd in this deal I think. GlenX, COL 2nd for Lecavalier and PHI 1st.
